Meet Preview: Swim & Dive Welcomes Hillsdale For First Home Meet Of The Season
November 07, 2024 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The BGSU swim & dive team will host a dual meet for the first time this season, as they take on the Division II Hillsdale Chargers on Friday, November 8 at 6:30 p.m. Bowling Green will also host John Carroll University in the diving events, as Hillsdale does not sponsor diving. John Carroll is where BGSU head coach Tanner Barton spent the last four years at the helm of the program.Â
The Falcons are coming off a 195-105 dual meet loss against Akron. The Falcons challenged the three-time defending MAC champions by winning five of the 14 individual events and scored their most points in a dual meet against the Zips since January 23, 2015, when they posted 167 points. Freshman Samia Becdach and sophomore diver Natalia Mayorga won MAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectfully, for their performances in the Rubber City.Â
Hillsdale has been a very consistent program in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference under 17th-year head coach Kurt Kirner, having finished in the top two at the conference meet in each of the last seven years and winning the G-MAC three straight years from 2020-22. The Chargers are led by seniors Megan Clifford and Elise Mason, who have each earned NCAA Division II All-American honors before. Clifford is a two-time All-American (2023-24) in the 200 butterfly, while Mason earned the honor in the 1,650 freestyle back in 2023 and has won each of the last three G-MAC titles in the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle events. Hillsdale also boasts the reigning G-MAC Swimmer of the Week, Matilyn Wilhelmsen, who earned the honor after competing in just her second-ever collegiate meet. She took first in both the 500 freestyle (5:14.83) and 1,000 freestyle (10:53.91) to help the Chargers in a tri-meet best conference foe Malone and snap Wooster's 33-meet winning streak.Â
