JUMP BALL
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team begins the February portion of the schedule with a short trip north this weekend. The Falcons, under the direction of first-year head coach Fred Chmiel, head to the Glass City for a Mid-American Conference matchup against the arch-rival University of Toledo. Tipoff for the latest 'Battle of I-75' is set for 2:00 p.m. at Savage Arena.

LAST TIME OUT: FALCONS PUT ON A SECOND-QUARTER CLINIC AGAINST NIU
• The Falcons put on a second-quarter clinic at the Stroh Center on Wednesday night (Jan. 31), en route to a 72-54 win over Northern Illinois at the Stroh Center.
• Morgan Sharps had 22 points for the Falcons, with Erika Porter and Paige Kohler scoring 14 and 10, respectively. Amy Velasco had eight points and nine assists, and Sophie Dziekan and Jaci Tubergen came off the bench to score seven points apiece. Tubergen's total set a new career best.
• Brooke Stonebraker led the visitors with 15 points, while Jayden Marable added 11.
• Trailing, 24-18, after the opening quarter, the Falcons proceeded to outscore the Huskies by a 22-2 count in the second period. BGSU shot 76.9 percent from the field in the quarter, going 10-for-13, and the Falcon defense held the Huskies to just 1-for-13 (7.7%) shooting and forced eight NIU turnovers in that period alone.
• BG began the quarter on an 18-0 run, holding the Huskies scoreless for over eight minutes before a Stonebraker putback. But, Tubergen immediately responded with a driving layup, and a Sharps floater gave the hosts a 40-26 halftime lead.
• That lead never fell below 10 points in the second half, and it grew as high as 22 points midway through the fourth quarter.
• For the game, BGSU shot a season-high 58.8% (30-of-51), including nearly a 70% success rate inside the three-point line. The Huskies shot 37.9%, but went just 12-for-41 (29.3%) over the final three quarters.
• The Falcons had a 33-30 rebounding lead, including a 20-9 advantage in the second half.
QUARTERLY REPORT

• BGSU has held the opponent to a single-digit point total in a quarter on 10 occasions this season to date. That includes four instances in which the Falcons allowed just six points or fewer. All four of the latter occurrences have come in the second quarter.

TUBERGEN TAKES ADVANTAGE OF HER TIME
• Sophomore Jaci Tubergen entered Wednesday night's NIU game with totals of 24 minutes played and four points scored this season. She checked into the contest with five seconds remaining in the first quarter.
• Tubergen had not played more than 7:11 in a game this season, but after playing those last few seconds of the first quarter, she played all 10 minutes in the second period as BGSU enjoyed that 22-2 scoring advantage. She was one of four Falcons to singlehandedly outscore the Huskies in the quarter, with four points.
• For the game, Tubergen had seven points in 15:10 – setting career bests in both minutes played and points scored – and she had a plus/minus rating of +18.
TROY GAME TO START AT NOON –PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF IT
• The start time for Falcons' game vs. Troy on Saturday, Feb. 10 – part of the MAC/Sun Belt Challenge – has been changed. Tipoff is now set for 12:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
BGSU SAAC TO HOLD CLINIC FOR NGWSD ON FEB. 7
• BGSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is proud to announce a sports clinic for National Girls and Women In Sports Day on Wednesday (Feb. 7). The clinic, which will run from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., will feature members of each of BGSU's women's athletic teams interacting and engaging with children to teach the importance of sport participation, leadership and leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
• After the event, all participants are invited to join BGSU women's basketball as the team hosts Ohio University at 7:00 p.m. Registration is limited to the first 75 children grades 1-8. More information can be found on the web at BGSUFalcons.com.
All participants will receive a complimentary ticket to the game and a bottled water for use during the clinic.
FALCONS' PLAY4KAY/PINK GAME SET FOR FEB. 10
• BGSU will host Troy next Saturday (Feb. 10), and it will be the program's annual Play4Kay/Pink Game. The Falcons are inviting Survivors, Thrivers and those standing in the gap for a loved one who is battling or has battled cancer to come to the Stroh Center for that day's game, which begins at 12:00 p.m.
• Former North Carolina State head women's basketball coach Kay Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. The vision of Play4Kay came directly from Coach Yow. Through Play4Kay, she saw a way to bring communities together and honor cancer warriors in the fight against ALL cancers affecting women.
• All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
BE READY WHEN YOUR NAME IS CALLED
• After 16 games this season, the Falcons had utilized six different starting-lineup combinations. That game after BGSU employed a total of five different lineups during all of last year (38 games).
• Nine different players have started at least one game in 2023-24 to date, after a total of seven different Falcons were in the starting lineup last season.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE ROCKETS
• Toledo is 15-4 on the season, and the Rockets are 8-1 in MAC play after an 88-66 win at Akron on Wednesday night. UT has won three consecutive games and nine of the last 10 contests. Overall, the Rockets are 7-1 at home, 6-3 on the road and 2-0 in neutral-site games this season. In MAC games, UT is a perfect 4-0 at home and 4-1 in hostile territory, with the lone loss coming at league-leading Ball State.
• Individually, Sophia Wiard and Quinesha Lockett have 15.5 and 14.8 ppg, respectively, with no fewer than six other players averaging over 5.4 ppg. Wiard owns the UT records for career games and career minutes played.
• Head coach Tricia Cullop welcomed back 11 letterwinners, including all five starters, from a 2022-23 team that finished 29-5 overall and 16-2 in conference action.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Toledo, 45-41, in the all-time series, but the Rockets have captured the last two meetings. Last season, the Falcons picking up an 88-76 win at the Stroh Center (Jan. 18, 2023), but the Rockets returned the favor with a 62-56 home victory on the final day of the regular season (March 4, 2023). Then, one week later, UT downed the Falcons, 73-58, in the MAC Tournament championship game in Cleveland.
• The players on BGSU's 2023-24 active roster combined to score just six of the Falcons' points in that league tourney final, while returning Rockets accounted for 61 of their team's points in that game.
• The Falcons are 22-14 at home, 15-23 on the road and 8-4 at neutral sites vs. UT through the years. Additional series information can be found on page 31.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Toledo game, the Falcons will return home for the next three games, beginning with a Wednesday (Feb. 7) contest vs. Ohio.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will host Troy next Saturday (Feb. 10) in the MAC/Sun Belt Challenge, before a rematch with the Rockets (Sat., Feb. 17) at the Stroh.
