BGSU Athletics Announces Leadership Change in Ice Hockey Program

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – On behalf of BGSU Athletics, Derek van der Merwe, director of athletics, issued the following statement regarding the separation with head ice hockey coach Ty Eigner:
"BGSU Hockey has a rich history of achievement and success, and has positively impacted the experience of countless students, alumni, fans and supporters over generations.
The decision to separate from Coach Eigner was made after a thorough review and evaluation of our program over multiple years. These are never easy decisions to make, especially given Ty's many years of service to the University. I would like to thank Ty and his family for their contributions and commitment to BGSU hockey, the University and the Bowling Green community, which represents a tenure of service as a student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach for the Falcons that has spanned a combined 19 seasons.
We will begin an immediate search for the next head coach to elevate our hockey program to prominence within the CCHA and nationally, and we are committed to working with our stakeholders across the country in creating this new trajectory."
