Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Fred Chmiel has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Laila Harrison (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kristiana Kulackovska (Saldus, Latvia) will join the Falcon family for the 2024-25 academic year.
Harrison will be a freshman at BGSU in the fall of 2024, while Kulackovska will be a junior and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"It's a great day for our program with the signings of KK and Laila," said Chmiel. "These young ladies are excellent additions on and off the court, and they will be valuable assets to the University and the Bowling Green community.
"They both have great size and versatility that can translate to multiple positions. Each player has a distinctly different skill set that will allow us to play a multitude of schemes and styles. We look forward to both of them arriving on campus this summer."
Harrison, a 6-1 wing, was an Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association (OPSWA) All-Ohio honorable-mention selection as a senior, and also was named to the All-District 16 Team. She averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Cougars, and led the Girls Greater Catholic League in field-goal percentage (49.5%), while ranking fifth in the league in rebounding and sixth in scoring.Â
Harrison helped Mount Notre Dame advance all the way to the regional finals (state quarterfinals) in 2023-24, as the team finished with an overall record of 24-4 and a perfect 8-0 mark in the GGCL. She had a double-double in each of her last three games, including a 25-point, 12-rebound performance in a win over Wayne in the district championship game. Harrison was selected to participate in the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Senior All-Star Game. She played AAU ball for Always 100, where her teammates included fellow BGSU signees Lauren Gerken and Johnea Donahue.
Kulackovska, a 6-0 wing, joins the Falcons from Eastern Florida State College, where she helped the Titans to a 60-7 record over the last two seasons. She was named to the NJCAA Division I All-Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Team, and also earned All-Citrus Conference First-Team honors. Kulackovska averaged 8.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in 2023-24, as the Titans went 27-5 and advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.
The Titans finished with a perfect 21-0 record in Citrus Conference play in 2023-24. That came on the heels of a 33-2 season in 2022-23, when Eastern Florida advanced all the way to the national tournament semifinals. Kulackovska played in a total of 69 games with the Titans. A native of Saldus, Latvia, she is the younger sister of Matiss Kulackovskis, who was a member of the BGSU men's basketball from 2017-18 through 2021-22.
Harrison and Kulackovska join fellow Falcon newcomers Johnea Donahue (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Lauren Gerken (Findlay, Ohio) and Kendal Moxey (Centreville, Md.), all of whom committed to BGSU during the November signing period.
