Falcons Settle for Scoreless Draw with Oakland

BGSU dominates the stat sheet in final non-conference contest
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team dominated every statistical category on Thursday night (Sept. 12), but the Falcons were forced to settle for a scoreless draw with Oakland University. The non-conference matchup took place inside Cochrane Stadium.
The Falcons (3-2-1) had a 17-3 lead in total shot attempts on the night. BGSU allowed just one shot on goal and did not surrender a corner kick as goalkeeper Madison Vukas and the defense recorded a second-straight shutout.
But, at the other end of the field, Julia Zangerl made seven saves for the Golden Grizzlies (1-5-2), and several other BGSU shots went just wide of goal.
Vukas made one save en route to her second clean sheet in a row and her third in six matches this season to date.
BGSU had a 7-1 lead in shots on goal and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
NOTE OF THE NIGHT
• Goalkeeper Madison Vukas and the Falcons, as mentioned, kept a clean sheet for the second-straight game and the third time this season. BGSU has allowed just four goals in the first six matches of the year, for a team goals-against average of 0.67.
• The Falcon defense in front of Vukas allowed only three total shots and just one shot on goal in Sunday's (Sept. 8) 2-0 win at Cleveland State. On Thursday, the BG back line repeated the feat, as Oakland had three total shots, one shot on goal and zero goals scored.

• The Oakland match was the Falcons' final non-conference contest of the 2024 regular season. BGSU now prepares for Mid-American Conference play, beginning with the league opener at Ball State next Thursday (Sept. 19). That match will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Briner Sports Complex.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will begin te home portion of the league slate three days later (Sunday, Sept. 22), when Toledo comes to Cochrane for a 1:00 p.m. match. The UT contest will be Senior Day for the Falcons.
