BGSU Ice Hockey Earns a Point Against #16 Mavericks

MANKATO, Minn. – The Bowling Green Falcon ice hockey team battled the #16 Minnesota State Mavericks on Friday night. After three periods of back and forth action in regulation, the game ended in a 4-4 tie, with the Mavericks earning the extra point in a shootout.
How it happened

Bowling Green jumped out to an early lead through Connor Levis, who redirected a shot from the point to beat Alex Tracy and give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons went on to double their advantage through Adam Zlnka, who jumped on a loose rebound in the slot and backhanded the puck through the five hole of Alex Tracy, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Minnesota State climbed back into the game late in the first, as Liam Watkins scored once and Tristan Lemyre netted two, making the score 3-2 after the first frame.

Jacob Steinman entered the game in net for the Falcons with six minutes remaining in the first in relief of Cole Moore.

Late in the second period, Noah Morneau tied the score at three during a four-on-four after a clever pass from Breck McKinley found him streaking towards the Minnesota State net.

Early in the final period, the Mavericks took a 4-3 lead on a shot that snuck through Jacob Steinman and was tapped in from close range.

Down by a goal with the extra attacker on the ice, Noah Morneau deflected a shot from Brayden Crampton past Alex Tracy to force overtime.

Jacob Steinman came up with two incredible saves in the overtime period to send the game to a shootout.

Tyler Hotson buried his shootout attempt to put the Falcons up 1-0 after the first round of shooters.

The Mavericks tied the shootout on their last chance, making it 1-1 after each team's first three shooters.

Minnesota State won the shootout on their fourth attempt, earning an extra point in Friday night's contest.
