Mavericks and Falcons to Face Off in Mankato
November 06, 2025 | Ice Hockey
MANKATO, Minn. – The Bowling Green ice hockey team will make its first trip to Minnesota of the 2025-26 CCHA season this weekend, as they travel to Mankato for a series against the Minnesota State Mavericks.
The Falcons will look to turn the tide this weekend, as they took just two out of a possible six points in last weekend's home opener against Bemidji State. Despite the results, the Falcons played a great series of hockey against the Beavers, with both games being tied after regulation. Both teams had their character tested, as the Falcons battled back from a 4-2 deficit in Friday night's game to force overtime. On Saturday however, it was the Falcons who let a two-goal lead slip in the third period, dropping the game in the ensuing overtime.
The Falcon offense continued its strong start to the season, carrying the momentum from their sweep against Lake Superior State the weekend prior. Quinn Emerson opened his goal scoring account for the season, as he scored the opening goal on both Friday night and Saturday night against the Beavers. Brayden Crampton tallied his second goal of the season, as his shot from the blue line on Saturday night found its way past the Bemidji goaltender. Jackson Niedermayer and Gustav Stjernberg both scored their first goals of the season, leading from the back end as the Falcons rallied to tie the game at four in the third period on Friday night.
This weekend's series will be the Falcons toughest test of the season so far, as the Mavericks are the reigning CCHA regular season and tournament champions. Minnesota State goaltender Alex Tracy was voted preseason All-CCHA in both the coaches and media polls, and CCHA player of the year in the preseason media poll. The Mavericks were also tabbed to finish first in the CCHA in the preseason media poll, and forward Evan Murr was also unanimously voted All-CCHA in both the coaches and media preseason polls. The Mavericks got their CCHA schedule underway last season, as they split a home-and-home series with St. Thomas, beating the Tommies in St. Paul 3-1 on Friday night, and dropping the series finale in Mankato, 4-3 in overtime.
Last season, the Falcons were unsuccessful in their visit to Mankato, losing 4-1 in game one, and 3-2 in overtime in game two. This year, a rejuvenated Falcon hockey program will look to earn their first win against the Mavericks since January of 2024.
Puck drop for Friday night's game is scheduled for 8:07 ET and will be available to watch on Midco Sports Plus. Live stats will also be available on msumavericks.com and live updates will be available on X.
