Falcons Welcome the Zips to the Doyt
• Bowling Green State University returns to Doyt Perry Stadium for its final home game of the 2025 season, as the Akron Zips visit for the Falcons' first of two midweek MACtion games this year.
• BGSU is facing Akron in a midweek MACtion contest for the third time, but for the first time at Doyt Perry Stadium. The Falcons previously earned road wins at Akron in 2016 (Wednesday, 38-28) and 2014 (Tuesday, 27-10).
• Kick is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
Bowling Green vs. Akron
• BGSU leads the all-time series with Akron, 21-10. Akron joined the MAC in 1992.
• Since 2000, Bowling Green is 6-1 against Akron when holding the Zips to under 300 yards of total offense. Akron's lone win came in 2020.
• Since 2000, Bowling Green is 10-4 against Akron when the Falcons accumulate 350+ yards of total offense.
• Since 2000, Bowling Green is 9-1 against Akron when winning the turnover battle.
Five Top Storylines
• TE Jyrin Johnson ranks No. 1 in the nation with an active reception streak of 43 games. He is tied for No. 13 nationally and is No. 1 in the MAC among tight ends with 32 receptions. His 12.0 yards per reception ranks No. 6 among tight ends with at least 40 targets, while his 383 receiving yards rank No. 16 among FBS tight ends and No. 1 among MAC tight ends.
• LB Gideon Lampron ranks No. 3 in the nation in solo tackles (52) and No. 5 in total tackles (100). Lampron is also No. 8 nationally and No. 4 among linebackers with 14.0 tackles for loss. He is the only player in the nation with 100+ tackles and 14+ tackles for loss. Lampron leads BGSU with 15 third-down stops that have forced fourth down.
• CB MJ Cannon is the only cornerback in the nation with 50+ tackles (50), 1.0+ sack (1), 1+ interception (1), 1+ fumble recovery (1), and 5.0+ tackles for loss (5.0). Cannon is one of just 15 players nationally — regardless of position — to meet those standards and joins SMU safety Ahmaad Moses as the only two defensive backs on the list.
• In records dating back to 1995, RB Austyn Dendy's 268 rushing yards are the third-most in program history through a player's first three collegiate games, trailing Freddie Barnes (327) and Anthon Samuel (307).
• Bowling Green has started four different quarterbacks in 2025 due to injuries. The Falcons are the only FBS program to start four different QBs this season: Drew Pyne (6), Lucian Anderson II (2), Baron May (1) and Hunter Najm (1).
Three-Game Winning Streak vs. Akron
• Bowling Green currently has a three-game winning streak against Akron. It is the longest winning streak since the Falcons won eight in a row from 2007-16.
• During the three-game winning streak, BGSU is winning the turnover battle, 8-2.
• BGSU has won 13 of the last 16 games played in the series.
• Two of these three wins came in one-possession road games, both sealed by late defensive stops.
• During the streak, the Falcons have averaged 33.0 points per game while allowing just 20.7.
• BGSU's offensive leaders have changed year-to-year — McDonald ('22), Stewart ('23), and Fannin Jr. ('24) — reflecting a balanced, evolving attack.
• In 2022, QB Matt McDonald passed for 247 yards, 3 TDs in a 31-28 win. The Falcons held off Akron's final drive to win MAC opener.
• In 2023, RB Terion Stewart rushed for 131 yards and 3 touchdowns as BGSU rolled to a 41-14 win at Doyt Perry Stadium. The Falcons built a 28-0 halftime lead and limited Akron to just 60 rushing yards.
• In 2023, BGSU won the turnover margin, 4-0.
• In 2024, TE Harold Fannin Jr. recorded 135 receiving yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 31-yard run on 4th-and-2 with 2:39 remaining in a 27-20 victory at Akron. RB Jaison Patterson added two rushing TDs, and the defense made a red-zone stop in the final minute to seal the win — the program's 300th all-time MAC victory.
• In 2024, Bowling Green produced 386 yards of offense, forced Akron into only 3 third-down conversions (on 11 opportunities) while converting 7 of 14 themselves, and held the ball nearly 35 minutes—enabling them to close out a 27-20 road victory in clutch fashion.
Bowling Green - Akron Connections
• Akron running back Jordan Grant, who is leading the MAC in rushing with 946 yards, played for BGSU head coach Eddie George at Tennessee State from 2022-24. His running back coach at TSU is current BGSU running backs coach Josh Crawford.
• Grant appeared in 27 games for TSU and rushed for 878 yards and 11 touchdowns while playing for George.
Steady Dendy Impresses in the Backfield
• RB Austyn Dendy made his collegiate debut at Kent State, rushing 20 times for 93 yards and one touchdown. His 93 rushing yards are the most by a Falcon in a debut since Anthon Samuel rushed for 141 yards at Idaho on Sept. 1, 2011.
• In records dating back to 1995, Dendy's 268 rushing yards are the third most in program history through the first three career collegiate games, trailing Freddie Barnes (327) and Anthon Samuel (307).
• Dendy rushed for 113 yards and two scores last time out at Eastern Michigan.
• Dendy is in his first season at BGSU after redshirting at Missouri in 2024.
Triple-Threat
• BGSU RB Kaderris Roberts is one of only eight FBS players with 200+ rushing yards, 140+ receiving yards and 150+ kick return yards.Â
• Roberts, who spent most of his career at Stetson, was at Tennessee State under Coach George in 2024 but did not play.
