A Bowling Green Win Would…
Scouting The Tribe
William & Mary will enter the week with a 2-2 record, including a 1-2 standing when playing on the road. The Tribe began with back-to-back wins, topping both Georgian Court (110-63) and Norfolk State (81-78) with the Norfolk State game being a road victory. However, the Tribe have fallen short in their last two games, falling to Richmond (90-86) and No. 13 St. John's (93-60), both on the road. William & Mary is led by a team effort with only two main stats being paced by the same player. Cade Haskins leads the way in three-point field goal percentage and blocks while Kyle Pulliam tops steals and minutes per game.
BGSU vs. William & Mary, All-Time
The Falcons and Tribe will be meeting for the second time in program history with the first meeting coming in 1949. The Falcons were able to come away with a 74-58 victory in the first game between the two programs, taking place on Dec. 19. With that, this will mark the second time Bowling Green and William & Mary will face in program history with both meetings taking place in Bowling Green.
Offensive Outbursts
Through the first four games of the season, the Falcons have been one of the most electric teams offensively in the nation. Bowling Green is currently averaging 93.3 points per game, ranking 36th in the nation. This has been due to the Falcons eclipsing 80 points in each of their first four games to start the season for the first time since 1973-74. That season, BGSU averaged 96.0 points per game through the first four contests. In program history, the Falcons have never begun a season with five consecutive 80+ point games.
Defensive Dominance
The Falcons have established themselves as one of the scrappier teams in the nation defensively. Through four games, the Orange and Brown are averaging 16.0 steals per game on top of 23.3 turnovers forced per game, which both lead the nation in their respective categories. Javontae Campbell has played a big role, swiping 4.8 steals per game by himself. Like the team, Campbell leads the nation for individual steals per game as well as total steals with 19 so far this season.
Shackelford Showing Up
Josiah Shackelford has quickly adjusted to the Division I level for the Falcons. After being named the 2024-25 Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year last season for D-II Flagler, Shackelford has picked up where he left off. Through the first four games, Shackelford is one of two Falcons to register double-digit points in each game. He's also one of two Falcons to log a 20-point game after having 23 against Davidson. He joins only Javontae Campbell on both of those lists. Shackelford is currently averaging 15.5 points per game for the Falcons while shooting 48.8-percent from the field.
Thomas Dishing It Out
Justin Thomas has been a key distributor for the Falcons so far this season, leading the team in assists with 17. Thomas has solely led or tied for the team lead in assists in each of BGSU's last three games, totaling 16 of his 17 assists over the three game stretch. Thomas is now averaging a team-high 4.3 assists per game, which is tied for sixth in the Mid-American Conference. His career-high for assists in a season is currently set at 98, doing so for Milwaukee during the 2022-23 season.
Nation Taking Notice
The strong start to the season for the Falcons has caught attention around college basketball. For the first time since the 2023-24 season, the Falcons are receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. Last week, the Falcons totaled 40 points in the vote, sitting just outside the top 25 at 30. While the Falcons lost in their last contest, they still managed to accumulate 13 votes in this week's poll. Currently, there are four MAC teams in the top 25, led by Miami (OH) at No. 5 and followed by Akron at No. 7, Kent State at No. 16 and Buffalo at No. 24

A Bowling Green Win Would…
- Give the Falcons a 4-0 start at home for the first time since beginning the home slate of the 2019-20 campaign with a 6-0 record.
- Grant BGSU a 4-1 start to the season, the best start to a campaign for the Falcons since the 2020-21 season when the team also started 4-1.
- Would secure a winning record in the month of November for the first time since 2023-24 (4-3).
- Keep Bowling Green undefeated against William & Mary all-time at 2-0.
