CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Communications) – Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Johnea Donahue has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 18).
Donahue earns the honor for the first time in her BGSU career.
Donahue, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider H.S.), led the Falcons in scoring, assists and steals last week, while ranking second on the team in assists. Donahue shot 52% from the field and 92% from the free-throw line and averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in road games vs. Wisconsin and Marquette.
The guard set career bests in both scoring (24) and assists (six) against UW, adding six rebounds and six steals while going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Then, two nights later, she had a BG-best 16 points vs. Marquette, going 6-for-11 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the line. Donahue is currently tied for the MAC lead in both steals and steals per game.
Donahue and the Falcons are back in action this weekend, heading to the Last Frontier to play a pair of games in the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout. BGSU will face UC Irvine on Friday night (Nov. 21) at 9:15 p.m., then will meet either St. Thomas or Alaska Anchorage the following night.
