Owning The Arc
In the season opener, the Falcons dominated around the three-point line on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. BGSU shot 45.5-percent from three while holding Texas State to a mark of 17.6-percent. The two stats are both in the top 25 in the nation with the offensive number ranking 23rd and the defensive number 22nd. After the first round of games for the season, only BGSU, Austin Peay and Kennesaw State are in the top 25 for both stats. Of those three, Bowling Green is the only one that played a Division I opponent to start the season.
Scouting The Bison
The game against the Falcons will be the first action of the season for Bethany College and will be marked as an exhibition for them. It will also be the first of two games in the state of Ohio, heading to Kenyon on Saturday (Nov. 8). Bethany is coming off a 7-18 season in 2024-25, but enter the season with new blood. Brandon Thorsen will take over the program with the contest against BGSU marking his first as the head coach of the Bison. Thorsen has been on staff with Bethany since 2021, beginning as a graduate assistant. He also served as the interim head coach during the 2022-23 campaign. In the preseason poll for the President's Athletic Conference, Bethany College was tabbed for a sixth-place finish in the South Division. The Bison also had three players named to the PAC Preseason Players to Watch list, including Troy Hixson, Ryan Reasbeck and Co Rose. In total, Bethany returns 17 players, including eight letterwinners, from last year's team. Reasbeck and Hixson top the list of returners. Of the returning group, Reasbeck leads the way in points per game, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, rebounds per game, assists per game and steals per game.
Scouting The Dolphins
Le Moyne is coming off a season opener win over SUNY Cobleskill at home on Monday (Nov. 3) with a 94-50 finish. The Dolphins were led by Deng Garang with 16 points, including 11 in the second half. Garang was followed by Tennessee Rainwater with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting as well as Eli Greenberg and Josiah Lee who both posted 12 points in their collegiate debuts. As for last season, Le Moyne finished with a 9-23 record while going 4-12 within the Northeast Conference. They closed out the season with five losses, including falling to Central Connecticut State in the first round of the NEC Championships. For this year, the Dolphins were picked to finish ninth in the regular season standings, the same selection as last year for the program. The team also returns eight players from the 2024-25 squad, including six letterwinners. Garang, who led the Dolphins in scoring in the season opener, is among the returning letterwinners. Additionally, the team has welcomed seven new players to the roster this year, consisting of five transfers and two freshmen. Both freshmen were key pieces in the win over SUNY Cobleskill with 12 points each. Before facing the Falcons, the Dolphins will take on Xavier on Thursday (Nov. 6).
A Perfect Beginning
In his first game for BGSU, Mayar Wol made quite the statement from the field. Not only did Wol score a team-high 19 points for BGSU, but he was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field as well as 4-for-4 from three-point range. Through the first round of games, Wol was one of 18 players to be perfect from three with at least three made attempts and one of 19 players to be perfect from the field with at least five attempts. With the minimum requirements for both stats, Wol is one of just four players in the nation to qualify for both, joined by Tulane's Curtis Williams Jr., St. John's Ian Jackson and Stonehill's Will Batchelder.
Glover Getting Close
Troy Glover II began the season strong, scoring the first four points of the game against Texas State. He finished with 12 in the contest, bringing his career total to 998 points scored at the collegiate level. The mark leaves Glover just two points shy of reaching 1,000 career points. Hitting the milestone would make Glover the second active player on BGSU's roster with 1,000 points at the collegiate level, joining Javontae Campbell who has 1,563.
Campbell Picking Up Where He Left Off
Javontae Campbell continued to do what he does best for Bowling Green, stuffing the stat sheet against Texas State. Campbell not only tallied 15 points, but led the Falcons in rebounds (7), assists (5) and steals (4). After having a program-record 90 steals last year for the Orange and Brown, Campbell is now just six steals away from 100 for BGSU. He's also tallied 492 points in 33 games for the Falcons, leaving him eight shy of 500 with Bowling Green.
Heating Up At Home
The Falcons won their home opener on Monday (Nov. 6), marking a win in six of the last seven home openers for BGSU. With two more games on the docket at home this week, Bowling Green has an opportunity to reach a 2-0 start to a season for the first time since 2023-24 and 3-0 for the first time since 2014-15. As for home games, it would be a 2-0 home start for the first time since 2023-24 and 3-0 for the first time since 2020-21.
