WHAT, WHEN & WHERE
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, currently tied for fifth place in the Mid-American Conference standings, will face three of the top-four teams in the standings over the next three games. Head coach Fred Chmiel and the Falcons begin that stretch with a Saturday (Jan. 17) contest vs. Miami University. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m. on Alumni Day at the Stroh Center.
WHERE TO WATCH / LISTEN
• Saturday's Miami matchup – as is the case with all of BGSU's home games (and many road games as well) – will be streamed via ESPN+. Additionally, all 2025-26 games will have an audio stream, thanks to BG Falcon Media Sports.
STATS & SOCIAL MEDIA
• Links to audio, video and live stats for all 2025-26 games can always be found on the web at BGSUFalcons.com – both on the women's basketball schedule page and in the right column on the main page – on game day.
PK10 IS AT 988
• Junior Paige Kohler enters Saturday's Miami game with a total of 988 career points at BGSU. Simple math would show that she needs just 12 points to reach the 1,000-point mark.
• Kohler would be the 33rd player in program history to reach the millennium mark. And, if she scores 12 or more points on Saturday, she would be the seventh-fastest player in BG history to reach 1,000 points. The list of fastest Falcons to 1,000 points cane be found on page 7 of these notes.
THE FALCONS VS. THE MAC
• Historically, the Falcons have been one of the top programs in the Mid-American Conference. Entering the Miami game, BGSU has gone 472-276 (.631) in league regular-season games over the years. The Falcons have the second-highest winning percentage of all MAC institutions, and the second-most conference wins of all 13 programs.
• BGSU has won 15 MAC regular-season titles, which is tied for the highest total of any conference institution. And, the Falcons have won a league-best 11 MAC Tournament titles.
• BGSU leads the all-time series with all 12 conference foes, making the Falcons – obviously – the only team in the league with a winning record against every other school. BG also has the most overall victories and highest overall winning pct. of any league institution.
TOUGH CROWD
• The Falcons, as mentioned, are beginning a stretch in which BG plays three teams currently residing in the top-four of the MAC standings. Those three teams – Miami, Ohio and Massachusetts – enter the weekend with a combined record of 13-2 in conference play.
• Saturday's opponent, Miami, is tied with Ball State atop the MAC with a 5-0 league ledger. Both Ohio and UMass are 4-1 in league action entering the weekend.
PROTECT THE STROH
• BGSU is back at home for the next two games. The Falcons enter Saturday's Miami contest with a 6-1 record at the Stroh Center this season to date. That record includes a 73-69 win over preseason MAC favorite Kent State in the conference opener (Dec. 20).
• The Falcons went 11-2 in home games last winter. BGSU's home winning percentage (.846) in 2024-25 was the third best since the Stroh Center opened in time for the 2011-12 season. Only the 2013-14 (16-1, .941) and '11-12 (14-2, .875) teams have had better marks during that time.
• Over the last five seasons (plus seven games), the Falcons have a record of 58-18 (.763) inside the Stroh.
DONAHUE'S BEEN DOMINANT
• Sophomore Johnea Donahue has had numerous well-rounded games, to say the least, in 2025-26. After missing two games due to injury in mid-December, Donahue returned to action and posted a double-double in the MAC opener against Kent State (Dec. 20). She had a game-high 19 points along with a game- and career-high 11 rebounds in that win, and was named MAC Player of the Week for the second time this season.
• Donahue also had been named MAC P-O-T-W after stuffing the stat sheet with a career-high 24 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals at Wisconsin (Nov. 12), followed by a 16-point performance at Marquette two nights later.
• The guard had eight steals, falling just two shy of the school record, in BGSU's win over Kentucky State (Dec. 3). All eight steals came in the first half.
• After her performance v KSU, she posted her second-straight double-double at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 30), with 10 points and 10 boards.
• Donahue again had eight steals in the win at Northern Illinois (Jan. 10), adding 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.
• Donahue is averaging 3.93 steals per game this season, which leads the MAC and ranks sixth in the entire nation. And, she is ranked among the MAC leaders in total steals (first), scoring (17th), rebounds (16th), assists (seventh), free-throw percentage (seventh), assist/turnover ratio (ninth) and minutes played (15th) as well.
KOHLER NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-MAC TEAM
• BGSU junior Paige Kohler was named to the 2025-26 Preseason All-MAC First Team, which was determined via voting by the league's 13 head coaches.
• Kohler, a native of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, earned All-MAC Honorable mention last season, and also was named to both the Academic All-MAC Team and the Academic All-District® Team, selected by College Sports Communicators. The guard started all 31 games in 2024-25, and averaged 35.0 minutes, 13.6 points and 4.6 boards per game, finishing second on the club in both scoring and rebounding.
• This season, Kohler leads the Falcons in scoring, with 14.3 ppg, and she is second in assists (3.6 apg). Kohler is listed among the MAC leaders in scoring (eighth), assists (ninth), free throw percentage (12th), three-pointers made per game (sixth), assist/turnover ratio (third) and minutes played (sixth).
• In her first two-and-a-half seasons at BGSU, Kohler has compiled impressive totals of 988 points, 339 rebounds, 280 assists and 145 three-point field goals made. She has moved into a tie for 33rd place on the BGSU career scoring list, and also is currently ranked on the school career lists for points per game (10th, 12.67), assists per game (eighth, 3.59), three-pointers made (17th) and three-pointers made per game (sixth, 1.86).
• Kohler has been in the starting lineup for all 78 of BGSU's games since she arrived on campus.
SPEAKING OF THE STARTING LINEUP
• The Falcons have used eight different starting lineups this season to date, after the Brown and Orange utilized five different lineups during all of last year and six the previous season (2023-24).
• A total of 10 players have started at least one game this year to date. That group includes a pair of fourth-year Falcons (senior Emily Siesel and redshirt junior Jasmine Fearne) who had never started a collegiate contest prior to Nov. 22. Junior Paige Kohler is the only player who has started all 16 games this year, while sophomore Johnea Donahue and junior Taya Ellis and have made 14 and 13 starts, respectively.
LEADERS OF THE MAC
• Johnea Donahue and Paige Kohler are far from the only Falcons who are listed among the MAC leaders in various statistical categories...
• Junior Taya Ellis is fourth in the league in blocked shots (1.00 bpg), and is also in the top 10 in free-throw percentage (sixth) and rebounding (10th).
• Sophomore Lauren Gerken is third in the league in blocks (1.06), while junior Jaedyn Cook is tied for 10th in that category (0.73 bpg in just 8.5 minutes per game). Senior Kaia Woods is eighth in the MAC in free-throw pct. (.795), while redshirt junior Jasmine Fearne is 13th in three-pointers per game (1.50).
MOX!
• Kendal Moxey has stepped up her game as of late, as the senior led the Falcons in both scoring and rebounding in back-to-back games. Moxey had 16 points and 15 rebounds – the highest totals of her BGSU career – against Central Michigan (Jan. 3).
• Then, last Saturday (Jan. 10), Moxey was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field en route to 15 points and eight rebounds in BG's 65-48 win at Northern Illinois. She scored 13 of those 15 points in the second half, including 10 in the fourth quarter alone.
• After amassing totals of 21 points and 19 rebounds (1.6 ppg and 1.5 rpg) over BGSU's first 13 games this season, Moxey had 35 points and 23 boards (11.7 ppg, 7.7 rpg) in the last three games, having gone 13-of-15 (.867) from the field in that time.
LAST TIME OUT: THIRD-QUARTER RUN PROPELS BGSU TO WIN AT WESTERN
• BGSU ended the third period on a double-digit run, then held off a spirited fourth-quarter comeback attempt by Western Michigan on Wednesday evening (Jan. 14), as the Falcons downed the Broncos, 61-54, inside University Arena.
• Sophomore Lauren Gerken and senior Kaia Woods each scored 15 points for the Falcons (10-6, 3-2 MAC), while junior Paige Kohler added 13. Gerken knocked down four three-point field-goal attempts as BG went 9-of-24 from the arc.
• BGSU scored the final 11 points of the third period to take a 48-34 lead, and the Falcons still led by 13 points after Jaedyn Cook's baby hook with just over four minutes remaining in the game. The Broncos (5-10, 2-3 MAC) scored the next eight points to get within five with 1:12 left, but Western would draw no closer.
• Sophomore Johnea Donahue scored eight points and had five assists and three steals. Junior Taya Ellis also had three steals, including one in the late stages of the game to douse any hopes the Broncos had for a miracle finish.
• Kailey Starks and Alli Carlson combined for 38 of WMU's 54 points on the night.
BGSU TABBED FOR SIXTH
• The Falcons were picked to finish sixth in the conference in 2025-26, according to the league's preseason poll, which was the result of voting by the head coaches.
• Kent State was the choice of the coaches to win the MAC regular-season crown in '25-26. The Golden Flashes received 133 points and five of the 13 first-place votes. Toledo garnered 118 points and two first-place votes, followed by MAC newcomer Massachusetts (115 points, three first-place votes), Ball State (112, three), Central Michigan (105) and the Falcons (101).
A QUICK LOOK AT THE REDHAWKS
• Miami enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 13-4, and the RedHawks are tied for first place in the MAC with a 5-0 league ledger. MU has won six consecutive games and nine of the last 10, including a 69-55 win over Eastern Michigan Wednesday night. Miami is 7-0 at home, 5-3 on the road and 1-1 in neutral-site games this season to date.
• The RedHawks lead the MAC in free-throw percentage and turnover margin, and are first or second in the conference in nearly every statistical category.
• Amber Tretter leads a balanced attack with 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. She is ninth in the MAC in the former category and fifth in the latter. Amber Scalia has 13.6 ppg, while Ilse De Vries has 11.3 ppg and leads the MAC with 1.65 blocked shots per game. Tamar Singer (10.4 ppg) rounds out Miami's double-digit scorers, and leads the entire conference in both assists (7.59) and assist/turnover ratio (1.98).
• Head coach Glenn Box welcomed back five players from a 2024-25 team that went 19-12 overall and 11-7 in MAC play.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Miami, 58-36, in the all-time series, and the home team has won each of the last four games. Last season, the RedHawks captured the only meeting, 78-63, in Oxford (Jan. 11, 2025). The teams' last matchup inside the Stroh Center saw the Falcons pick up a 66-47 victory two years ago (March 2, 2024).
• Miami has won two of the last three meetings after BGSU had taken the previous six games, from 2020-23, by an average of 20.0 points per game. Overall, the Falcons are 28-16 at home, 24-19 on the road and 6-1 in neutral-site meetings with Miami over the years. More information can be found on page 25 of these very notes.
