NOTE OF THE NIGHT: MILLENNIUM FALCON
• Junior Paige Kohler, as mentioned, surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career with a corner three on the game's opening possession. Kohler reached that milestone in her 80th career game.
• Kohler is the 33rd player in school history to reach 1,000 points, and is tied for the seventh-fastest player in BGSU history to get to that mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Junior Paige Kohler, as mentioned, knocked down a corner three just 23 seconds into the game to give the Falcons the lead as well as pass the 1,000-point mark for her career. And, she hit another triple to put the home team up by a 6-2 count after just 75 seconds. But, the Bobcats would score the game's next seven points, with Bella Ranallo starting that run with a leyup and ending it with a three-pointer that gave the visitors a 9-6 lead.
• Sophomore Lauren Gerken snapped that run with a bucket, but Monica Williams proceeded to hit back-to-back three-pointers, before a ReRe Jennings three-point play gave the 'Cats an 18-8 lead just over halfway through the first quarter.
• Freshman Ky'Aira Miller's own personal five-point run, however, got the Falcons within five. She was fouled and hit a pair of free throws, and junior Joniyah Bland-Fitzpatrick stole the ball and fed Miller for a three-pointer that cut the Ohio lead to 20-15. But, a Ranallo triple ended the first quarter scoring and gave the 'Cats a 23-16 lead.
• Another Ranallo trey early in the second period put the visitors up by 10, and after Taya Ellis hit a pair of free throws, Danni Scully's triple was followed by a Jennings steal and layup. That was part of a 13-0 run that was capped by Gigi Bower's three-point make, giving the visitors a 41-20 lead. The margin reached 23 points when Bailey Tabeling's triple try was good in the final seconds of the half.
• Ohio went 5-for-8 from the arc in the second quarter and 9-of-14 (64.3%) from long distance in the first half, opening up a 46-23 lead at the break.
• The margin reached 30 points on Ranallo's trey four minutes into the third quarter. BG proceeded to go on a 12-1 run, including a five-point possession which saw Kohler hit an and-one layup, Bland-Fitzpatrick rebound a missed free throw and Miller find senior Emily Siesel for a three-pointer. And, when Siesel fed Bland-Fitzpatrick for a layup, it was a 19-point game with 2:15 left in the third.
• But, Tabeling's three-point play began a 5-0 Ohio run to end the quarter, and BGSU could not get closer than 19 thereafter. Ohio ended the game on a 6-0 run to provide the final margin.
• Redshirt junior Jasmine Fearne went 2-for-2 from the arc in the fourth quarter, a quarter in which all 15 of BG's field-goal attempts came from long range.Â
