Men’s Hoops Resumes MAC Play With Trip To Northern Illinois Wednesday

Campbell Eyes 2,000 Career Point Mark, Currently At 1,997
DeKALB, Ill. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will resume MAC play on Wednesday (Feb. 11) with a road game at Northern Illinois. The Falcons and Huskies are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip. Bowling Green enters with a 14-10 overall record while being 5-6 in the MAC. As for Northern Illinois, they head into the contest with an 8-14 season standing, going 3-7 within the conference. The game between the Falcons and Huskies will be available to stream on ESPN+ with a radio feed from Todd Walker available on WFRO Eagle 99.

As for his time in the Orange and Brown, Campbell has tallied 926 points, 74 shy of 1,000 for the Falcons. If he can reach 1,000 for BGSU he would be the first 1,000-point scorer for Bowling Green since Daeqwon Plowden ended his BGSU career with 1,618 points in 2022, eighth in program history. With seven games left in the regular season, Campbell would need to average 10.6 points per game for the mark, but postseason points would count towards the milestone as well.
Scouting The Huskies
Northern Illinois enters the game with an 8-14 record on the season but have won two of their last three with wins over Western Michigan and Georgia State. They've added wins against Central Michigan and UMass for a 3-7 MAC record with the wins over CMU and UMass coming by a combined three points. Of their eight wins overall, the Huskies have tallied six at home, including all three MAC wins. The game against BGSU will mark the only home game for NIU over a stretch of five games spanning from Jan. 31-Feb. 17.

Troy Glover II has been strong in the paint defensively for the Falcons, logging at least one block in nine of the last 10 games for Bowling Green. During the 10-game stretch, Glover has totaled 16 blocks. The effort has pushed Glover's season total to 31, tied for third in the MAC. As a freshman at Trinity Christian College in 2022-23, Glover swatted away 104 blocks, ranking third in the country across all levels of basketball. Over the last two seasons at Missouri-St. Louis he compiled a total of 116 blocks, leading the league last year with 67.

This season, Bowling Green has put together one of the more efficient offensive attacks not only in the MAC, but in the nation. The Falcons are shooting 48.3-percent from the field this year, third in the conference and 40th in the nation. As a team, BGSU has shot north of 50.0-percent 11 times this season through 24 games, doing so in nearly half of their contests. Two of those 11 have come on the road, including a road-best 51.6-percent in the overtime win against UMass on Jan. 3. On top of that, NIU currently ranks 11th in the MAC for field goal percentage defense, allowing teams to shoot an average of 46.8-percent from the field.
A Veteran Presence
Justin Thomas has been a force for the Falcons in the starting lineup this season. Averaging 25.0 minutes per game, Thomas this year is averaging 5.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, but his veteran presence has made a difference from the jump. In games this year that Thomas has started, BGSU has a record of 11-5, however, when Thomas isn't in the starting lineup the Falcons are 3-5 this season. Of the eight games that Thomas didn't start, he didn't appear in two and came off the bench in the other six after battling back from an injury.
