Campbell Enters Within Range Of Multiple Career Milestones, Records
OXFORD, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will be back on the national stage Friday night (Feb. 20), heading south to Miami (OH) to take on the RedHawks. Bowling Green and Miami are set for an 8:30 p.m. tip on CBS Sports Network, pitting the Falcons against the last undefeated team in the nation. Additionally, Javontae Campbell enters 20 points shy of 1,000 for BGSU and three steals shy of the single-season program record he set last season. In addition to the national TV coverage, a radio feed from Todd Walker available on WFRO Eagle 99 for the game between the Falcons and RedHawks.
Opening Tip
Bowling Green and Miami (OH) will be meeting for the 155th time in program history with the series leaning to the RedHawks, 93-61. The last win for the Falcons in the series came in Oxford with a 78-73 victory on Jan. 16, 2024, but the RedHawks have the advantage when hosting all-time, 53-19. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season with the first being on Dec. 30 with the RedHawks claiming a 93-83 final score. Miami (OH) enters with the most efficient offense in the nation, shooting 53.5-percent, but the Falcons have held their last four MAC opponents under 40.0-percent shooting.

One Down, One To Go For Campbell
Javontae Campbell checked one scoring milestone off the list against NIU, eclipsing the 2,000-point mark for his collegiate career across all levels. Now, he's aiming for 1,000 in the Orange and Brown. With BGSU, Campbell has tallied 980 points, 20 shy of 1,000 for the Falcons. Campbell would be the first 1,000-point scorer for Bowling Green since Daeqwon Plowden ended his BGSU career with 1,618 points in 2022.
Javontae One Of Four In The Nation
Javontae Campbell is one of four players in the nation this season to tally at least 500 points and 135 assists, currently with 503 and 135, respectively. Campbell is joined on the list by Arkansas' Darius Acuff Jr. (579 Points, 162 Assists), Akron's Tavari Johnson (529 Points, 135 Assists) and Mercer's Baracka Okojie (504 Points, 144 Assists). Campbell is the only of the four with 40+ steals this season, currently with 88.
Campbell On Record-Breaking Pace
Through 27 games, Javontae Campbell is averaging 3.3 steals per game with 88 total. His average and total are both currently leading the nation. Campbell is currently on pace for 101 steals in the regular season plus any postseason steals, which would break not only his own single-season record for the Falcons of 90 last season, but also threaten the current MAC record, set at 103 by Ball State's Bonzi Wells in 1997-98.
Scouting The RedHawks
Since the last meeting between BGSU and Miami, the RedHawks and continued their winning ways, now the only undefeated team left in the nation. The firepower of the Miami offense has been the catalyst, leading the nation in both field goal percentage (53.5-percent) as well as effective field goal percentage (.624). The attack has been a team effort with Miami not having a player in the top 10 for the MAC in scoring. Peter Suder leads the way at 11th, averaging 14.8 points, followed by Brant Byers in 12th (14.7 points).

Bowling Green fought back in the second half, outscoring Miami, 55-39, but the RedHawks managed to hold on for the 93-83 final.
Glover's Block Party Continues
Troy Glover II has been strong in the paint defensively for the Falcons, logging at least one block in 12 of the last 13 games for Bowling Green, including 12 over the last three games. Glover's defensive surge has put him on the brink of the nation's top 50, currently 53rd with 43 blocks this season. Additionally, his 1.6 blocks per game are now 65th in the country. Over the last 13 games, Glover has 28 blocks with his season total ranking second in the MAC behind only Central Michigan's Nathan Claerbaut, who is four ahead with 47. Glover is also one block away from entering BGSU's top 10 for single-season blocks.
Digging In On Defense
Bowling Green began the season by holding their first three opponents to a combined 38.2-percent. They've returned to those roots over the last four MAC games, holding each opponent under 40-percent from the field. The games including Ball State, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Kent State have produced a combined 36.9-percent mark from the field for BGSU's opponents. The stretch has improved BGSU's field goal percentage defense to 44.0-percent against MAC opponents, ranking fourth in the conference. The defense will be put to the test against Miami (OH), who enters as the nation's leader in field goal percentage, shooting at a 53.5-percent clip.
Heating Up From Down-Towns
Over the last two games, Sam Towns has connected on a combined six three-pointers, including a career-high four in the win over Toledo. This season, Towns has made 28 three-pointers after entering the year with 12 over his first five collegiate seasons. In the game against Kent State, Towns' pair of threes aided his double-double effort, finishing with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, marking his third double-double of the season and first against a MAC opponent. His other two came against VMI with 12 points and 18 rebounds and against Chicago Stats with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Building On The Second Half
In the first meeting between Bowling Green and Miami (OH), the Falcons put together a strong second half. After halftime, the Falcons outscored the RedHawks 55-39 and forced Miami into 10 turnovers. The second half burst was led by Sam Towns with 16 points followed by Mayar Wol with 14 and Javontae Campbell with 12. The Orange and Brown shot 55.9-percent in the half on top of going 14-of-16 from the free throw line.

The game against the RedHawks will be Bowling Green's second game on national TV this season after hosting Akron on CBS Sports Network on Jan. 9, continuing a streak of 11 consecutive seasons that BGSU has had at least one regular season game nationally televised, dating back to 2015-16. During that span, BGSU has had 18 games on CBS Sports Network, seven games on ESPNU, two games on ESPN2, two games on Big Ten Network, one game on FS2 and one game on ACC Network.
