Bowling Green Hosts Mel Brodt to Open 2026 Season

The Bowling Green men's cross country team will host the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open on the morning of Friday, Sept. 4. The meet is a dual against Ohio University, with the women's 5K starting at 10 a.m. and the men's 5K beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Ohio enters the season after an 11 th place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional and placing 5 th place MAC Championship.
The men return to Mel Brodt for the first time since 2023. The meet wasn't held in 2024, and last year's men's race was canceled.
Senior Micah Bentley led the Falcons at last year's MAC Championships, crossing the finish at 25:53.6. Junior Luke Lesseuer (25:54.3) and junior Owen Zaumeyer (25:58.0) both ran personal bests right behind him.
Sophomores Wyatt Ulbricht and Isaak Rubley also scored for the Falcons as freshmen last season. Senior Jim Trzaska rounds out the returning group; he raced at the Michigan Open to start last season but did not compete at the MAC Championships.
The newcomers joining the roster this year are all freshmen: Colin Buening, Cameron Hohman, Aiden Lee, and Gibson Shore.
Both the men's and women's teams return to the Mel Brodt course on Oct. 16 for the Falcon Invitational, the second of two regular-season home meets.
