2010: Placed a season-best fifth at the Toledo Tune-Up in the 1500m, recording a season-best time of 4:49.78 … in the 1500m at the Toledo Invitational, had a time of 4:56.09 for sixth place … finished 12th at the Toledo Collegiate Challenge in the 3000m with a time of 11:14.10 … ran the 3000m in 11:26.34 at the Jack Shaw Invite for 13th place … also at the Toledo Invitational, recorded a mark of 2:33.20 in the 800m for 12th place.
2009 XC: Ran in all seven races during the 2009 season… had her best performance in the Falcon Invite (6K) when she finished seventh overall with a time of 22:31.3… was the team’s second-best performer at the MAC Championship (6K) when she finished 31st with a time of 23:50.7… was the first Falcon runner to finish at the All-Ohio Championship (5K) as she finished 29th overall with a time of 20:02.7… had an impressive race in the Mel Brodt Invitational (5K) when she crossed the finish line in 18:52.9 and finished in 14th place overall… set a new personal 5K record at the Toledo Dual when she finished second with a time of 14:57… concluded her cross country career a the Great Lakes Regional (6K) with a time of 23:27.11 to end up 135th.
2009: ran a personal best time of 2:17.24 in the 800m at the MAC Championships, finishing 13th … placed fourth at the All-Ohio Championships with a time of 2:19.84 … recorded a time of 5:09.24 in the one mile run finishing third at the BGSU Challenge … in outdoor, recorded a personal best time of 2:23.52 in the 800m at the All-Ohio Championships … placed ninth in the 1500m at the Toledo Invitational with a time of 4:57.97.
2008: Had a season best time of 4:38.58 in the 1500m at the MAC Championships, finishing fourth ... Had a time of 4:41.74 in the 1500m at Oliver Nikoloff, finishing first ... Had a time of 2:16.67 in the 800m at Len Paddock, finishing seventh ... Ran a time of 5:10.72 in the one mile run at the BGSU Invite, finishing second ... Ran a time of 5:11.63 in the one mile run at the MAC Championships, finishing 20th.
2007 XC:Built upon the success she had as a freshman during her sophomore season as she finished the season as the team's number two runner in three of seven meets on the year. She set a 5K PR of 18:27.17 at the Greater Louisville Classic where she finished in the 38th-position. She broke her 5K PR in three-consecutive meets to start the season, including the season opening dual meet against Toledo where she finished a season-high second. Took home the 19th-spot at the Mel Brodt Invitational and the 17th-position at the Falcon Invitational with times of 18:35.69 and 18:31.72, respectively. Finished her year with a 32nd-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships with a time of 18:42.7.
2007: Won the 800-meters at the BGSU Quad with a collegiate-best of 2:19.02...Redshirted the outdoor season due to injury.
2006 XC:Had a very successful freshman cross country season where she ended up as the Falcons number three runner in four of seven meets this season. She set a 5K PR of 19:06 at the Mel Brodt Invite and a 6K PR at the NCAA Regionals with a time of 22:56. She finished 72nd at the NCAA Regional meet and became the Falcons highest finisher since 2000. High School: Bates was a member of the Palatine High School 4 X 800m relay team that won conference, sectionals and state championships in 2005. Carly was also a member of the 4 x 800m relay team that got second in state in 2004. Bates won the Indoor conference 800m championship in 2004 and was also the sectional champion in the 800 meters and part of the 4 X 800m relay team that won conference and sectionals in 2004. Carly was an individual Illinois AA state qualifier in the 800m in 2004. Bates has also had great success in cross country while competing for Palatine. She was a member of the Palatine Cross Country Team that got 2nd at state in 2003 and finished of 32nd individually that season. This past fall Carly battled injury but continued to add to her list of achievements. Carly finished 6th overall at her cross country conference meet as well as earning an 8th place finish at the competitive Peoria invitational. Carly was a member of the 2005 Palatine Cross Country team that finished 3rd at the Illinois State Meet and was selected as one of the top senior cross country runners in Illinois and represented Team Illinois in the Mid East meet of Champions in Kettering, Ohio. Bates has been named to the honor roll 4 consecutive years. She is a member of the A team which is a group that is recognized for academics and athletics. Carly also serves as an intern for a special education classroom and volunteers for the Special Olympics. She has run personal best times of 17:50 for 3 miles in cross country, 60.7 for 400 meters, 2:16 for 800 meters, and 5:20 fo r1600 meters. She was coached by Steve Currins. Personal: Carly is the daughter of William and Bonnie Bates. She plans to major in special education.
