Amy Ruthenberg finished her second year as assistant coach for the Bowling Green State University women’s golf program having joined head coach Stephanie Young’s coaching staff in 2013-14.
Ruthenberg will assist with all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the golf team.
“I am thrilled to add Coach Ruthenberg to the coaching staff. She will be a tremendous asset, not only to our golf program, but to the university community as well. Amy has achieved at the highest levels both athletically and academically,” Young said. “Her talent, knowledge and passion for the game and BGSU Women’s Golf has already had an impact on everyone. She is going to be an amazing coach and it’s a privilege to be part of watching her develop and grow.”
In 2014-15, BGSU recorded six top-four team finishes, including a third-place finish at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational and at the rain shortened EKU Colonel Classic, and turned in a season-low team round of 296 at both the Cardinal Classic and the Rio Verde Invitational. As a team, BGSU posted a season stroke average of 311.30 overall on the year.
The Falcons’ second round team score of 306 at the 2015 MAC Championships tied the lowest team score over 18-holes of play in the program’s conference championship history for the second straight year, while senior Patricia Holt earned 2015 MAC Women’s Golf Championship Individual Runner-Up Medalist honors for her second-place individual finish. Holt’s second-place finish at the 2015 MAC Tournament is the best individual finish by a Falcon at the event in the program’s history.
Individually, Holt also earned 2015 MAC Women’s Golf All-Tournament Team honors and was named the MAC Women’s Golfer of the Week on Feb. 12, 2015, while sophomore Mikayla Baer earned a spot on the EKU Colonel Classic All-Tournament Team with a third-place finish.
Seniors Shelby Wilson and Patricia Holt each etched their names in the record books in 2014-15, as Wilson carded the second-lowest single season stroke average in BGSU history with an average of 77.20, while Holt’s average of 77.60 ranks as the third best average in Falcons’ history.
In 2013-14, Ruthenberg’s first year as a coach at BGSU, the Falcons finished the year with four top-five team finishes, highlighted by a team win at the Cleveland State Invitational and a second-place finish at the Rocker Classic, and turned in a team-low round of 288 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate to set the school record for the lowest 18-hole team score in BGSU women's golf history. The 2013-14 squad also posted a new school record for the lowest single season stroke average with a 311.22 team stroke average on the year, topping the previous mark of 311.26 set in 2012-13.
BGSU's round of 306 on day two of the 2014 MAC Women's Golf Championships marked the lowest team score over 18-holes of play for the Falcons in its MAC Championships history. The previous low round for a BGSU squad at the conference championship event was a 307 back in 2003. The Falcons also carded a 312 in 2013 and a 315 in 2006.
