Bernie Compton completed her fifth year on the women's soccer staff, and her ninth overall season working with the team, in 2023. She was named the program's Director of Operations prior to the 2019 season, and has helped the Falcons earn Mid-American Conference titles and NCAA Championships appearances in four-straight years from 2018-21
In June of 2021, Compton received the Diversity & Inclusion Award at the Ziggys, the athletic department's end-of-year (virtual) awards ceremony. The award is given to just one individual each year. Compton earned that award again at the 2023 Ziggys.
Prior to assuming her current role, Compton spent four years as the sport psychology consultant for the women's soccer Falcons, as well as several other BGSU teams. She performs many roles at the University, as she is currently a doctoral student in leadership studies in the School of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Policy.
Compton earned a Master of Arts degree from BGSU in 2019 in American Cultural Studies, with a concentration in Sport Psychology. She was a graduate teaching assistant in the fall of 2015, her first semester at the University, before becoming an instructor of record.
Compton earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Arkansas in 2013, with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. She earned a Master of Science degree in Sports Leadership, with a concentration in sport psychology, from Miami University in 2015.
In addition to teaching several undergraduate courses, Compton serves as a mentor for undergraduate sport management students interested in sport psychology at BGSU. She is also a graduate assistant for Project IMPACT.
