Duane Bartnicki joined Bowling Green State University’s Slater Family Ice Arena as a graduate assistant in August 2023.
Currently, Duane manages student staff, coordinates parking logistics during hockey games, operates the Zamboni to maintain ice quality, overseas concessions, and establishes contracts with external cleaning services to ensure consistent cleanliness standards.
Prior to accepting the assistantship, Bartnicki completed his bachelor of science in sports management with a minor in general business at Western Michigan University in April 2023. While earning his degree, he served as a athletic facilities student intern at Western Michigan Athletics for three years, where he coordinated sporting events, provided administrative assistance, delivered customer service, and supervised and mentored student workers.
Bartnicki also took on the role of director of operations for track and field in Kalamazoo, Mich., where he coordinated sporting events, handled travel arrangements for athletes and coaching staff, and ensured a positive fan experience.
During the summer of 2023, Bartnicki worked as a full-time temp at the University of Michigan Athletics, where he checked and tested pool levels, maintained facility cleanliness, set up and tore down equipment for events.
In addition to his professional experience, Bartnicki has been involved in volunteer work and campus organizations. He volunteered as a Marathon Guide for the Turkey Trot 5K. He was also an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, where he served as risk manager and administered social media platforms.
Bartnicki looks forward to continuing his professional development and gaining vital career experience through his graduate assistantship at the Slater Family Ice Arena.
