Luke Bodeis joined BGSU in August of 2022 as the Associate Director of the Slater Ice Arena. He is proud to be joined by his wife, Jen, and his newborn daughter into the BGSU Family.

Bodeis grew up playing hockey in both Port Huron, Michigan and Sarnia, Ontario where he developed a year-round love and passion for ice skating sports that was fostered by his father and family. The small and tightknit communities were instrumental in developing his passion for hockey, integrity, grit, and a what it takes to keep the community rink going.Â

Bodeis attended Western Michigan University and earned his bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a major in Social Studies in 2014. He spent the next 4 years teaching A.P.U.S. History & World History in metro Detroit, when he later discovered an opportunity to work in the ice arena Industry. Making a career change in 2018, he earned an opportunity at Suburban Ice – Macomb, in Macomb Michigan.

During his time at Suburban Ice – Macomb, Bodeis supported the nation’s largest Learn to Skate program as an on-ice instructor, lead and directed all on ice instruction for Suburban Hockey Schools, and was the lead instructor for all 8 & under hockey programming for the Macomb Hockey Club. He attended the USA Coach’s Certification Class obtaining his Level 3 and Basic Ice Arena Refrigeration through the U.S. Ice Rink Association. Bodeis further spent time under the mentorship of industry members in learning about the importance of Ice Maintenance, Ice Plant systems, and upkeep of an ice arena Facility.
