July 16, 2010 | General
Throughout the summer, we'll be releasing our list of the Top 10 Moments of the 2009-10 athletic year at BGSU. The list was compiled and voted on by members of the Athletics Department administration and the Athletic Communications office. We'll release the list one at a time until announcing the No. 1 moment of the year on Aug. 2. Today, we look back at our No. 4 moment of the year.
Derek Spencer's Walk-Off Homer Gives Falcons Share Of The MAC East Title
Needing a win on the final day of the regular season to secure a third consecutive Mid-American Conference Eastern Division title, the BGSU baseball team made things interesting. The Falcons scored four runs in the bottom of the first but Buffalo, which had already been eliminated from the conference tournament, hung tough and scored twice in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 8-8. Bowling Green senior Derek Spencer stepped to the plate to open the bottom half of the inning and, with one swing of the bat, he ended it. Spencer's shot to right center cleared the wall and gave the Falcons a 9-8 victory for yet another conference crown.
