Miami moved 40 yards in six plays to draw first blood five minutes into the game. The Falcons came right back to drive to the Miami 20-yard line on the ensuing possession before Andy Sahm was intercepted in the end zone by Michael Adams.
That would be the only points until there was 3:53 left in the second quarter when BG's Jason Strasser hit from 32 yards to cap a 12-play, 62-yard drive. Strasser had a 43-yard field goal try at the 9:25 mark of the second quarter hit the right upright.
Miami then built a 21-3 edge at the half scoring a pair of touchdown passes in the final 2:03 of the first 30 minutes.
But, the Falcons came back to score with their first possession of the second half on the 30-yard connection from Sahm to Robert Redd. But, the teams would trade touchdowns before Miami put the game away scoring 17 unanswered points in a six-minute span.
A field goal at the 1:32 mark of the third quarter was followed by a 17-yard pass play which was set up after a Bowling Green fumble, and a 53-yard run by Travis Prentice at the 10:41 mark of the fourth quarter to take a 45-17 edge.
BG scored twice in the last five minutes, but that is as close as they would get.
The 45 points allowed by the Falcon defense topped the previous high of 41 by Xavier in 1971 as the most ever given up at Perry Stadium. The loss ended a Falcon six-game home winning streak as the Falcons yielded 503 yards to the RedHawks.
Falcon wide receiver Robert had six receptions for 115 yards topping the 100-yard barrier in receiving yards for the third-straight game, a school record. Wide receiver Aaron Alexander caught eight passes for 87 yards, both career highs. The Falcons had 429 yards of total offense in the game.
