Bowling Green, Ohio - Playing at home for the first time in nearly a month, the Falcons dropped an eight-point decision to the visiting Cougars. The Falcons complete pre-Christmas action, and are idle until the Hokie Hardwood Classic in Blacksburg, Va., Dec. 29-30.
The Brown and Orange never led in the contest, and the game's only tie came at 2-2. The visitors, behind Jen Kerns' 18 first-half points, led by as many as 15 before settling for a 10-point edge at the halftime break.
Kerns, who made her first five shots of the game, scored 13 of WSU's first 15 points. She finished with 20 points in the contest.
The Coug lead was still at 12 points, 43-31, early in the second half, when the Falcons went on an 11-0 run to creep within a single point. The run was culminated by an Angie Farmer three-point shot with 13:43 remaining. Farmer's team-high 18 points included six treys, just one off her own school record.
The visitors, however, scored the next eight points to take a 51-42 lead. BGSU would close within one point three more times, but never could get the tying or go-ahead basket.
A Jaymee Wappes jumper brought the Falcons within three points with a minute left. The Cougars, however, made seven-straight free throws over the next 43 seconds to ice the contest.
Three Falcons joined Farmer in double digits. Francine Miller had 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds, while Wappes tied her career high with 12 points. Wappes added five rebounds, four assists and three steals in 39 minutes of action.
Sherry Kahle had 10 points for the Falcons, while Afra Smith added nine.
For the visitors, Alke Dietel had 23 points off the bench. The 6-foot-4 Dietel was 8-for-10 from the field and hit both of her three-point attempts in the contest.
