Powers served as head coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for five seasons (1989-90 through 1993-94) prior to being named to his current position at Bowling Green on July 12, 1994. He spent one season as the head coach at Rochester Institute of Technology (1988-89) leading the Tigers to a second-place finish in the Division III national championships.

PREVIEWING UPCOMING OPPONENTS ...
Boston College began its 1999-2000 season with a 7-1 exhibition victory over Queens on Oct. 8. BC is led by Jerry York, the sixth winningest coach in NCAA history with 564 victories. York, who has compiled a 97-79-18 mark in his tenure at BC, signed a five-year contract in June, 1999.
The Eagles, the preseason No. 1 team in the country according to USCHO Online, have won back-to-back Hockey East tournament titles and reached the NCAA's Frozen Four the last two seasons.
BC returns 15 letterwinners (nine forwards, five defensemen and one goalie) including two Titan All-America First Team selections in senior defenseman Mike Mottau and junior forward Brian Gionta. Other key returnees are junior goalie Scott Clemmensen, and senior forwards Blake Bellefeuille and Jeff Farkas.
BC used all three goalies in its triumph over Queen's. Clemmensen stopped all five shots he faced in the opening period, with Tim Kelleher turning aside all seven Golden Gaels shots in the middle stanza. Tom Egan made three saves on four shots in the final period, allowing a 5-on-3 power-play goal with 3:09 remaining in the contest.
Freshman right wing Krys Kolanos led the Eagles with three goals and two assists. Scoring single goals for BC were Kevin Caulfield, Mike Lephart, Paul Kelly and Jeff Giuliano.
Northeastern opens its season against the Falcons. The Huskies have 22 letterwinners returning from last season's squad which compiled an 11-20-3 overall record and a 6-16-2 mark in Hockey East play.
The Huskie program is guided by fourth-year head man Bruce Crowder, the 1996 Spencer Penrose National Coach of the Year. NU has only four seniors on its roster, all forwards - Bobby Davis (3-4--7), Billy Newson (7-13--20), Todd Barclay (19-12--31) and Roger Holeczy (4-25--29). Sophomore Jason Braun (10-17-3, 3.61, .870) is the lone returning netminder.
On the blueline, Northeastern returns juniors Mike Jozefowicz and John Peterman, along with classmate Matt Brown. Arik Engbrecht returns after being redshirted last season due to an ailing disc.
