OXFORD, Ohio - It was snowing outside Miami's Millett Hall Saturday afternoon, but it was raining three-pointers inside. Unfortunately for the Falcon women's basketball team, Miami made 16 of the 23 treys in the game, as the RedHawks cruised to a 100-69 win.
MU's Jamie Stewart set a Mid-American Conference record by making nine three-pointers, and the RedHawks (10-7 overall, 4-3 MAC) made nearly 52 percent of the team's tries from long range, going 16-of-31 in the game.
At the game's outset, both teams were on fire. BGSU (4-14, 2-6 MAC) made four of its first five shots in the game, including three from three-point land. Sherry Kahle made two of those treys and scored eight of BG's first 11 points. Meanwhile, MU made its first four attempts from the field, including three treys. The game was tied at 11-11 with just 2:18 elapsed.
The Brown and Orange took a six-point lead at 22-16 with 13:41 left in the first half, after baskets by Karen Stocz and Francine Miller. The RedHawks simply took off and ran away from the Falcons after that, however.
Miami scored the next 10 points of the contest to begin a 25-2 run. In fact, the RedHawks finished the half by scoring 39 of the final 47 points of the stanza to lead by 25 (55-30) at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half, as MU scored the first 16 points of the stanza to complete a 24-0 run. When Dana Western scored with 12:56 left in the game, it marked BG's first points in a span of 10:37.
MU led by as many as 42 points, at 74-32, before settling for the final, 31-point margin. Stewart's game-high 29 points led four RedHawks in double digits. For the Brown and Orange, Kahle had 16 points, going 3-of-4 from three-point land. Miller had her second double-double in as many games and her seventh of the year, with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Angie Farmer added 11 points.
Jaymee Wappes had eight assists and four steals for the visiting Falcons, who will host Akron in a Wednesday (Jan. 26) tilt at Anderson Arena.
Junior Jackie Adlington made her Falcon debut in the game. Adlington, a transfer from Cleveland State who has not played for two years, participated in her first full practice the evening before the game. She played four minutes, splitting a pair of free throws to score her first point as a Falcon. Adlington added an assist and a blocked shot.
