BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The following sentence may (or may not) shock you.
Three-point records were falling at Anderson Arena Wednesday, as the Bowling Green women's basketball team bested Akron by a 94-72 final in Mid-American Conference action.
The Falcons, who lead the NCAA in three-pointers made per game, gave head coach Dee Knoblauch her 200th career win in record fashion, draining 16 three-point field goals in 38 attempts. Both totals set new school single-game marks.
After hitting "only" one three-pointer in the first eight minutes, the Falcons (5-14 overall, 3-6 MAC) caught fire from long range. BG's senior co-captains, Jaymee Wappes and Sherry Kahle, combined for four triples in under two minutes, as each player hit a pair. That flurry boosted BG's lead to 14 points midway through the half.
Moments later, it was Angie Farmer's turn. The junior hit three long-range shots, the last from several feet beyond the arc, in a two-minute span, and Francine Miller followed with BG's 10th trey of the half to give the Falcons a 16-point lead. BGSU led by that margin at the half.
In the second half, Akron (5-13, 1-6 MAC) never got closer than a 12-point deficit, and BG pushed the lead over 20 points for good on a Kahle trey at the 10:35 mark. That triple was the fourth in a series of five BG "three's" in a span of 2:14. During that stretch, which pushed the Falcon lead from 15 points to 28, Farmer and Kahle hit two treys apiece and Wappes drained one.
Kahle's second three-pointer in that stretch, at the 10:02 mark, set a new school single-game record. Twenty-five seconds later, Farmer's final trey of the night enabled BG to tie the MAC record of 16 treys in a game. That record had been achieved on three previous occasions, with the most recent coming just four days earlier. Miami hit 16 three-pointers in a win over the Falcons on Jan. 22.
Farmer's NBA-range trey in the first half enabled her to tie the school's individual record for "three's" in a season, and her first triple of the second half gave her the record outright. Farmer now has made 56 three-pointers this year, breaking Sara Puthoff's mark of 53 (set in 1994-95).
BGSU entered the 1999-2000 season with school single-game records of 12 three-pointers made and 29 attempted. The Falcons have made at least 12 treys on four occasions this season, and have surpassed the old record for attempts five times this winter.
Interestingly, after making 16 three-pointers over the game's first 30-plus minutes, the Falcons did not sink a trey in the final 9:37. BGSU led by as many as 35 points, at 94-59, before Akron scored the final 13 points of the game.
Nearly lost in the three-point barrage was Miller's game-high total of 29 points. Miller, who made her first six shots of the evening, finished 10-of-15 from the floor in just 26 minutes of action. Farmer had 18 points, as did Afra Smith, whose total represented a season high. Smith went 7-of-10 from the floor.
Kahle had 14 points, as well as game highs of nine rebounds and four steals (Kim Griech also had nine boards, a career best). Wappes scored nine points and tied her career high with 11 assists. She added six rebounds and three steals.
The Falcon starters outscored the Akron starting five, 88-53. BGSU shot .563 from the field in the first half and .485 for the game.
Abby Hoy led Akron with 21 points, while Katie Hank added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The win gave Knoblauch an overall record of 200-147 in her 13th year as a collegiate head coach.

"I thought it was a very good overall team effort. I love to look at the boxscore and see four or five players scoring in double figures. I feel like I bet Miami felt on Saturday (in a 100-69 MU win over BG). It's just amazing when the ball is going in the hole like that.""Some of the 'three's' we made were just incredible. We just got into that zone."
"I think we're best when we run, and we're able to get a lot of open looks when we run. We could never get into our game against Western Michigan or Miami ... Today, we got into our game, and we're most effective when we play like that."
"We really had a nice inside-outside mix. Afra (Smith) did a great job of taking it to the hoop. I think she's been trying too hard, and putting a lot of pressure on herself. She can take it to the hoop on anybody, and Franny (Miller) can take it to the hoop on anybody. We've been working a lot on driving and dishing. Everybody knows we can shoot 'three's', and they're flying out at us on 'three's', so we need to try to take it in and get a basket or a kick-out and a wide-open look."
Quoting BGSU junior guard Angie Farmer
"It was kind of funny, Franny and I were talking before the game, and I said that it would be nice if we could all click on one night. We kind of did that tonight. Jaymee hit some (three-pointers), Sherry hit some, Franny hit some and I hit some. It was nice to see us all get on the same page and knock some down in a night. Normally, we have one person hitting the three, but tonight, everyone seemed like they were hitting their 'three's'."
Quoting Akron head coach Roxanne Allen
"That's the best I've seen Smith play. We've seen her on film, and I've been real impressed with her. Francine is Francine, she's having a sensational year. She was definitely a concern for us coming in. It wasn't a lack of respect, it was a lack of execution. Katie Hank is one of our better defenders, normally, and did not have a great night. But Francine, really, just smoked her.""You have to respect (Miller's) three-point shooting ability. Most of what we've seen on tape this year, she's been driving really hard. So, we were going to pressure the shot, knowing she wanted to drive, and she just schooled us. It didn't matter, if we were out on her, she drove around us ... and if we gave her an inch, she hit the 'three.' And, I can't feel too bad, because she's doing it against everybody. Nobody's shut her down. She's just having an outstanding year, she's an excellent player. She's got an aggressive mentality that she's going to get it done. That's probably across the board for most of Dee's kids. They've got her mentality, that's how she was as a player."
