The Bowling Green State University baseball team held its annual awards banquet Sunday afternoon at the BG Elks Club.
Receiving Awards (as voted on by the players) - year based on 1998-99 academic year:
Matt Marcum (Jr., Catcher) -- Scholar-Athlete Award, Mr. Falcon/Ken Schoeni Award
Aric Christman (So., Outfielder) -- Most Improved, Defensive Player-of-the-Year
Joe Cheney (Jr., Pitcher) -- Comeback Player
Len Elias (Fr., Outfielder) -- Mr. Hustle/Aaron Lawniczak Award
Bob Niemet (Sr., First Baseman) -- Leadership Award, Most Valuable Player
Mike Muzi (Jr., Pitcher) -- Fireman's Award
Jason Kelley (Sr., Pitcher) -- Most Valuable Pitcher
Pitcher Doug Flere, shortstop Nick Elrod, third baseman Sean Ryan (Toledo, OH/Start) and outfielder Len Elias each received the Freshman-of-the-Year/ Don Woods Award.
Elected tri-captains for the 2000 season were senior catchers Matt Marcum and Brad Simon, along with senior pitcher Joe Cheney.
Receiving special recognition awards for contributions to the program were Chris Geib and John Treece.
