The Falcons opened the 1999 season with a convincing victory over Colgate (15-5, 15-12, 15-1). BGSU hit .244 as a team, including a blistering .600 (16-1-25) in game three. Melissa Lewis opened her senior year by leading the team in kills (15) and hitting percentage (.323), while classmate Kris Pesorda had nine kills. Junior JoAnna Papageorgiou had a match-high 13 digs, while senior Heather Greig handed out 41 assists.
The Brown and Orange again posted a three-game win later in the day, this time over Loyola (Md.). Lewis had a team-high 18 kills, while Papageorgiou hit .400 (7-1-15) and Pesorda .370 (13-3-27). Greig Had 47 assist in the win (15-7, 15-12, 15-13), while Lori Kemerer had a match-high 16 digs.
