Women's Basketball Picked To Finish Fifth In East

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team has been picked to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference's East Division in the 2000-2001 season.
Voting for the preseason poll was conducted by members of the MAC News Media Association, and the poll was announced by the league office at the MAC Women's Basketball Media Day. The event was held Wednesday (Oct. 18) at the Renaissance Hotel in Cleveland.
The Falcons earned 133 points in the poll, to trail Kent State, Miami, Akron and Buffalo in the poll. BGSU was picked to finish ahead of Ohio and Marshall.
Western Michigan was picked to win the West Division, and the Broncos received 16 votes to win the league tournament. KSU garnered 13 tourney title votes, while Eastern Michigan had four. The complete poll can be found below.
In other news, the MAC office announced that the league women's basketball tourney will have a new location and title sponsor in 2001. The 20th MAC Women's Basketball Tournament, with Kraft Foods as a title sponsor, will be held at Gund Arena.
Following first-round tourney competition at campus sites on Saturday, March 3, the tournament will move to Gund Arena for quarterfinal action on Tuesday, March 6. Two semifinal contests are set for Friday, March 9, while the championship game is slated for Saturday, March 10.
The 2001 Kraft MAC Women's Basketball Tournament marks the second year that all 13 teams will participate in the tourney, after eight teams qualified from 1992-99.
The league office also announced a television package for 2000-2001, and the Falcons will help kick off that 11-game women's basketball package. BGSU's home game vs. Kent State on Feb. 3 will be shown on Fox Sports Net Ohio. The TV package will include eight regular-season games, as well as the tournament semifinals and championship. Various Fox regional sports network affiliates will televise all 11 contests.
