Retired Equipment Manager Passes Away

One of the most beloved individuals in the history of BGSU athletics, retired equipment manager Glenn Sharp passed away on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green, with the funeral service slated for 11 a.m. on Thursday at First United Methodist Church.
"Sharpie" served as the BGSU equipment manager for 24 years (1957-81) and was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982. In 1989, the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) established an award in Sharp's honors (The Glenn Sharp Award) which is presented by the association to a person for his outstanding work, dedication and involvement in the AEMA. Sharp was instrumental in forming the AEMA and served as the president for two terms.
Born in Bloomdale, Ohio, Sharp earned numerous awards including Honorary Alumnus Award (given by the BGSU Alumni Association), Honorary Letterman Award and Special Recognition Award (given by the Varsity BG Club), and the Hollis A. Moore Service Award (given by the BGSU Student Government Association).
He is survived by his wife, Helen, and sons Jim and Joe. He was preceded in death by his daughter Janice. Since retiring in 1981, Sharp had assisted his son, Joe, in the BGSU equipment room.
