Women's Golf To Compete In Austin Peay Invite

The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will be competing in the Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, Tenn.) Precept Invitational, this Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 9-10), at the Clarksville Country Club. The Falcon men's golf team will also be competing in this tournament that features both men's and women's golf programs.
Two years ago, APSU coach Mark Leroux came up with the idea to develop a tournament that featured schools who had both men and women's golf programs, especially those coached by one person. With the help of Precept--the Bridgestone Sports golf ball brand--and the Clarksville Country Club, the idea became a reality. Last year seven schools brought both their men and women's teams. Two others competed in just the men's while one other school brought just their women's program.
This year, the tourney has expanded to 10 schools bringing both programs: Tennessee Tech, Belmont, Samford, Evansville, Oakland (Mich.), IUPUI, Montevallo, Mercer and Bowling Green. Jackson State will bring just its women's program.
"We are pleased with the progress we are making with the tourney," Leroux said. "Each year we hope to improve the tournament and as it evolves we hope to continue build the strength of the field."
Action in the 36-hole tourney will begin Monday morning and conclude Tuesday afternoon with a women, men and a combined team champion. Tennessee Tech won the women's championship and the combined team title last year while the APSU won the men's title.
