PEACE PIPE AT STAKE FOR 65TH TIME
The Falcons meet their oldest rival for the 65th time, the University of Toledo. At stake is the Peace Pipe Award, a traveling trophy which is presented to the winner. The award was originally fought for on the basketball court beginning in 1947. The original six-foot pipe disappeared, so, in 1980, the Peace Pipe was reinstated for football with former UT football player Frank Kralik creating the present trophy.
FALCONS ON NATIONAL TV
ESPN2 will give the Falcons their first national TV appearance since 1992 when they play Thanksgiving Eve at Toledo. BGSU last performed in front of a national audience in the 1992 Las Vegas Bowl, when it defeated Nevada, 35-34. The Falcons played on live television six times this season. ESPN Plus picked up home games against Pittsburgh and Marshall, and road games against Temple and Michigan. HTTV in New York televised the conference opener against Buffalo.
SERIES QUICK FACTS
The Falcons hold a 34-26-4 edge in a series which began in 1919. That initial meeting, a 6-0 Toledo victory, was the first intercollegiate football game for the Falcons.
Last year 's 34-23 victory for the Falcons snapped a four-game Rocket winning streak, the longest such streak in the series.
BGSU will be looking for its first win in the Glass Bowl since a 31-16 triumph in the Glass Bowl in 1994. This is just the second time that the two arch-rivals have met in the final game of the regularseason. In 1986, Toledo came away with a 22-3 triumph in the season finale for both teams.
