CLEVELAND, Ohio - A pair of Bowling Green State University standouts have been named to the All-Mid-American Conference women's soccer team, the league office has announced. Senior Ashley Enser and junior Beth Wechsler each have earned all-league second-team honors.
Enser, a native of Toledo, Ohio, is tied for second on the Falcons with 11 points this season. Her three goals include the first goal of the match in BG's upset win at Eastern Michigan, 2-1, in Tuesday's (Oct. 31) MAC Tournament quarterfinal match. The midfielder has started all 76 matches in the history of the program to date, although that streak is in jeopardy. Enser suffered a concussion early in the second half of the EMU match, and likely will miss this weekend's action.
Wechsler, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, becomes the first Falcon to earn all-league honors twice in her career. The sweeper also was named to the All-MAC Second Team in 1998. This year, Wechsler has two goals and a pair of assists, with one of the assists coming on the overtime match-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Marshall (Oct. 13).
Eastern Michigan's Tracy Deeter was named the MAC Player of the Year, while Buffalo's Jean-A. Tassy was selected the MAC Coach of the Year. Marshall's Amanda McMahon was named the MAC Newcomer of the Year.
The All-MAC First Team consisted of Eastern Michigan's Deeter, Kate Lewis, Courtney Sindelar and Amanda Kulikowski, Buffalo's Linnaea DiNallo, Elizabeth Pfeffer and Paula Listrani, Miami's Tonja Weimer and Andrea Cunningham, Marshall's McMahon and Western Michigan's Megan Ramey.
Joining Enser and Wechsler on the second team were Toledo's Odia Jahurally and Corrie Hasenjager, Miami's Shaedyn Cousino and Danielle Berkemeier, Central Michigan's Kjersten Kuhlman and Allison Campbell, EMU's Sarah Willis, UB's Cherie Rogers, and Becca Bleyer of Northern Illinois.
The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards, after Tuesday's league tourney win, will participate in Friday's (Nov. 3) MAC Tournament Semifinals in Buffalo, N.Y. BGSU (9-9-1), the tournament's seventh seed, will face sixth-seeded Western Michigan (10-8-2) in Friday's first semifinal, beginning at 12:15 p.m. The winner will advance to Sunday's (Nov. 5) championship match to face either fourth-seeded Miami or top-seeded Buffalo.
