BGSU Hockey Renovation
Groundbreaking Scheduled For Dec. 2
The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics will be holding the official groundbreaking ceremony for the hockey renovation project on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. The ribbon-cutting will involve university officials and BGSU Athletic Director Paul Krebs.
The project, which is being completely funded by external sources and costing $730,000, is the largest fund-raising effort undertaken by the athletic department. Over $600,000 has been raised to-date through contributions by BGSU hockey supporters, hockey letterwinners, and BGSU alumni in the National Hockey League.
"The renovation is critical to the long-term success of our hockey program. We have raised a significant amount of money in a short period of time. We still hope to raise the remaining amount in the very near future," stated Krebs. "The ceremonial groundbreaking is important because it indicates that we have raised enough money to move forward with the project."
The department is continuing to raise dollars through the Brick Campaign. Personalized bricks for either $200 or $500 allow individuals to be involved in this project with the bricks being placed in the new walkway of the renovated area.
The Brick Campaign is being chaired by Paul Yutzy with former Falcon Dave Ellett serving as the honorary chairman. Ellett was a member of BGSU's 1984 national championship team and played 16 years in the NHL before retiring this past summer.
A private reception for contributors to the hockey renovation project - including brick walkway contributors - will be held both prior to and following the groundbreaking ceremony in the Ice Arena lounge.
