ODK Honor Society Inducts BGSU Leaders

Two faculty members, an administrator and 24 students have been tapped for membership into the Bowling Green State University circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the most prestigious collegiate leadership honor society in the nation.
They were inducted during ceremonies held Friday (Dec. 8).
The administrator is Janna Blais, an associate athletic director and senior woman administrator.
Blais, who joined the University staff in 1999, serves as a sport coordinator for 15 of Bowling Green's 22 sports and administration of the athletic training program. Her responsibilities include interaction with coaching staffs, community outreach and fund raising.
Before coming to Bowling Green, she was the assistant director of athletics for compliance and senior woman administrator at the University of Hartford for three years. She is a member of the Falcon Club, the Student-Athlete Wellness Committee and the University's Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Connecticut in 1993 and 1996, respectively. While a member of the University of Connecticut softball team, Blais was named East Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year and earned All-American honors during her final two seasons.
Jen Jarjosa (West Chester, Ohio), the daughter of George and Penni Jarjosa, is a senior majoring in biology and pre-medicine. Selected for membership under the athletics category, she is a four-year varsity swimmer who earned Mid-American Conference All-Academic first team honors last year. Named to the GTE Regional All-Academic first team, Jarjosa is a member of Phi Kappa Phi scholastic honor society and Golden Key National Honor Society. In addition, the Lakota High School graduate has received numerous academic scholarships, including Bowling Green's Presidential and University Book scholarships.
Janean Johnson (East Cleveland, Ohio) was selected for membership under the social, service, religious and campus government activities category. A member of the women's track and field team, she sings in the University's Gospel Choir and participates in the intramural volleyball program. Her honors include receiving Bowling Green's Black Pioneers Scholarship and the Athletic-Academic Achievement Award. A Dean's List student, the junior biochemistry major is also a member of the Phi Eta Sigma freshman scholastic honor society and the Golden Key National Honor Society. In her community she also volunteers her time at University Hospitals of Cleveland and is a Sunday school teacher for Christ Temple Apostolic Church. The Hawken High School graduate is the daughter of Paul and Annie Johnson.
Paul Shipp (Kenton, Ohio) was selected for membership under the athletics category. A member of the men's track and field team, Shipp was named to the Mid-American Conference Athletic Academic honor roll this past year. He is active in the intramural program, participating in both flag football and basketball. A Dean's List student, the junior English major is a member of the Bowling Green chapter of Amnesty International and Athletes in Action, a college athlete Christian organization. A graduate of Kenton Senior High School, he is the son of Dean and Kathy Shipp.
Kim Moden (Napoleon, Ohio), a junior apparel merchandising and product development major, is the daughter of William and Mary Jo Moden. Selected for membership under the athletics category, she is a member of the women's swimming and club water polo teams. Moden is a two-year Mid-American Conference swimming qualifier and finalist in both individual and relays. In the community, she has volunteered her time assisting with Red Cross Bloodmobiles and collecting canned goods for a local food pantry. A graduate of Napoleon High School, she is a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron family and consumer science honor society.
Rob Glatz (Amherst, Ohio), the son of Robert and Catherine Glatz, was selected for membership under the athletics category. A senior majoring in secondary science education, he is a three-year member of the men's cross country and track and field teams. The Dean's List student is also a member of the Athletic-Academic Honor Roll and the Golden Key National Honor Society. He also was named to Who's Who Among College Students. A graduate of Amherst Steele High School, Glatz is a member of the Bowling Green Student Education Association, a volunteer at St. Thomas More University Parish and a Springboard coach, serving as a mentor to BGSU freshmen. He is also active in the intramural program, participating in volleyball, softball and ultimate Frisbee.
Andy Jenkins (Oak Harbor, Ohio) was selected for membership under the athletics category. A senior production and purchasing major, he is a member of the men's golf and swim teams. During the 1998-99 season Jenkins was selected as the BGSU Men's Swimmer of the Year as well as earning Mid-American Conference All-Academic first team honors. The Oak Harbor High School graduate also qualified and competed at the Olympic Swim Team Trials this past year. Jenkins is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta freshmen academic honor society and the Golden Key National Honor Society. He is the son of Mark and Susan Jenkins.
Kris Waechter (Massillon, Ohio) was selected for membership under the athletics category. A junior aviation major, he is a three-year member of the men's swimming and diving team. A recipient of the University's Air Force ROTC Scholarship, Waechter is active in the Air Force ROTC and serves as a support group commander. He also participates in the intramural program in both softball and volleyball. The son of Bernie and Carol Waechter, he is a graduate of Perry High School.
Kelly Mansell (Napanoch, NY) was selected for membership under the social, service, religious and campus government activities category. A senior elementary and special education major, she is a member of the women's track and field team. Her honors include receiving the Most Valuable Freshman Track and Captain awards. She is a member of the Bowling Green Student Education and the National Education associations. She is a volunteer at Wood Lane School and the Children's Resource Center in Bowling Green. A Ellenville Central High School graduate, she is the daughter of Thomas Mansell and Elizabeth Hornbeck of Wawarsing, NY.
Krista Davis (Hamilton, Ontario), the daughter of Kurt and Sherry Davis, 129 Lavina Crescent, was selected for membership under the athletics category. A senior majoring in biology and secondary education, she is a four-year member of the volleyball team. During the 1998 season Davis earned Mid-American Conference All-Academic honorable mention honors and received Bowling Green's Falcon Club Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. A Dean's List student, she has received several scholarships, including the University's Achievement and the Stephen S. Steel scholarships. She is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa national academic honor society and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. In the community, the Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School graduate is a member of Falcon Quest, University athletes who speak to elementary students in the Bowling Green area.
Kate Yeo (Singapore), a junior majoring in international business, finance and management information systems, was selected for membership under the athletics category. The daughter of See Cheow Yeo and New Whe Ang of Singapore, Japan, she is a two-year member of the University's volleyball team. A Dean's List student, Yeo attended Raffels Girls School and Raffles Junior College in Japan. A member of the World Student Association, she also played four years with the Singaporean National Volleyball Team.
