Bowling Green, Ohio -
Bowling Green State University senior forward Anthony Stacey was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches all-district team, the NABC office recently announced. Stacey earned second-team honors in District 10.
The Elyria, Ohio native was also a second-team selection last season. He is only the fifth player in school history to earn a spot on the NABC district team twice. Jim Darrow, Nate Thurmond, Howard Komives, and Walt Piatkowski also earned a spot on the district team at least twice. Both Darrow and Komives were named to the district team three times.
Stacey led the Falcons to the best record in the Mid-American Conference this season and the #1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament. The Falcons begin play in the league tournament on Sunday with a noon game at Gund Arena against either Miami or Eastern Michigan. Bowling Green heads into the MAC Tournament with a 22-6 overall record after finishing league play with a 14-4 mark to win the East Division.
Stacey, the BGSU career scoring and steals leader, is averaging 16.8 points this season and 5.9 rebounds. He is shooting 46.5% from the floor and 78.6% from the line. He also has 63 assists and 50 steals. He has scored in double figures in each of the last 20 Falcon contests.
The graduate of Grafton Midview High School has 1,905 points to rank 12th on the all-time MAC list.
Joining Stacey on the second-team was Brian Cardinal from Purdue, Pete Mickeal from Cincinnati, Shaun Stonerook from Ohio, and Tony Stanley from Dayton.
The first team consisted of Kenyon Martin from Cincinnati, Scoonie Penn from Ohio State, A.J. Guyton from Indiana, Troy Murphy from Notre Dame, and Michael Redd from Ohio State.
The 150 players who comprise the all-star teams in the 15 districts form the poll from which the Division I All-American team will be selected.
