CHICAGO, Ill. - The Bowling Green men's tennis team dropped to 4-3 on the young dual-match season with a 6-1 road loss to DePaul University in Chicago Friday (March 3). The host Blue Demons entered the match ranked 67th in the nation in the WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
Sophomore Vitek Wild posted a big victory for the Brown and Orange, downing DU's John Cheregi in straight sets at the top flight. Wild recorded the win by scores of 7-5 and 6-3 over Cheregi, ranked 10th in the region.
"Vitek was amazing today," said head coach Jay Harris. "That was the best win of his young career."
Wild's win was BG's only singles victory on the day, however. DePaul captured two of the three doubles flights, with only BG's third-flight tandem of sophomore Ed Kuresman and freshman Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo emerging victorious.
The Falcons stay on the road for a pair of matches in Kentucky next weekend. The Brown and Orange will take on Kentucky Friday (March 10) and Eastern Kentucky Saturday (March 11), before returning home the next weekend. BGSU will meet Wright State on March 17 in a 2:30 p.m. start at Keefe Courts.
