Ham Named To CCHA All-Academic First Team

Bowling Green senior forward Zach Ham (Spokane, WA/Waterloo Black Hawks) has been selected to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic First-Team for the second consecutive year in a vote of the league's faculty athletic representatives. BG has now had a student-athlete named to the CCHA All- Academic First-Team 14 of the last 15 years.
Ham, who maintains a 3.87 cumulative grade-point average in Architectural/Environmental Design Studies, was one of eight student-athletes selected to the all-academic first team. He will receive his plaque during the 2000 CCHA Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 16 in Detroit's Fox Theatre.
He has played in all 34 Falcon games this season scoring seven points on two goals and five assists. One of the top defensive forwards in the conference, Ham has helped BG record the 15th-best penalty-killing percentage (84.4) in the nation.
BG sophomore defenseman Grady Moore (Castlegar, BC/Penticton Panthers) was named to the honorable mention all-academic team for receiving votes.
Seven Falcons were selected to the CCHA All-Academic Special Mention squad -- sophomore defensemen Marc Barlow (Addison, ONT/Smiths Falls Bears) and Joe Statkus (Oak Lawn, IL/Soo Indians), sophomore forward Ryan Wetterberg (St. Paul, MN/Rochester Mustangs), junior defensemen Louis Mass (Anchorage, AK/Lincoln Stars) and Doug Schueller (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Twin Cities Vulcans), and junior forwards Curtis Valentine (Gansevoort, NY/Capital District Selects) and Dennis Williams (Stratford, ONT/ Stratford Cullitons).
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, have a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade-point average and play on a regular basis.
Bowling Green went 5-3-1 in its final nine games of the regular season to finish eighth in the CCHA with a league mark of 12-15-1. This weekend, the Falcons travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, for a best two-of-three game CCHA tournament first round series.
