BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Sophomore Jessie Milosek threw the first no-hitter of her collegiate career as the Bowling Green softball team blanked visiting Kent, 2-0, Saturday (April 22). The game, the first half of a Mid-American Conference doubleheader, was held at the BGSU Softball Field.
Milosek allowed just one baserunner in the contest, on a two-out walk in the fourth inning. KSU's Grete Hornstrom drew the walk after working the count to 3-2. But, she was stranded there as Milosek induced Denae Jones to line out to BG shortstop Libby Voshell.
BGSU got all the runs Milosek would need in the first inning. Angie Domschot led off the frame with a single, and a one-out walk to Colleen Bates put runners on first and second. KSU starting pitcher Taylor Fleming got Renee Rosemeier to ground out, but Erin Zwinck provided a clutch hit. Zwinck laced a two-out single to score both Domschot and Bates.
The Falcons got two more hits in the second inning, off the bats of junior Lynsey Ebel and Angie Domschot, but Fleming worked out of the jam.
Fleming was truly a hard-luck loser, as she did not allow a BGSU baserunner after the second inning. Fleming allowed only four hits on the day, and retired the last 13 batters of the game. She struck out two Falcons and walked one.
Milosek, however, would not be denied. She struck out four batters and got 13 ground-ball outs on the day. Milosek, who improved to 9-3 on the season, struck out the side in the second inning.
For just the fifth game this season, but the second consecutive game, the Falcons did not commit an error.
Angie Domschot was the lone player with two hits in the game. The Falcons left three runners on base to Kent's one.
