BOWLING GREEN, O. - The newest member of the BGSU Athletics Department staff is Dr. Darren Hamilton, who will assume the position of Athletics Academic Coordinator on July 1st.
Hamilton, a native of Wilkes Barre, Pa., received his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Penn State University, where he was also a member of the football team. While earning his graduate degrees, he served as an academic advisor for student-athletes at Penn State.
"My experience as a student-athlete will lend credibility to the wisdom that I have gained in the eyes of the student-athletes I will be working with," said Hamilton. "I understand what they are enduring and what they're about to endure."
After leaving PSU, Hamilton assumed the position of Assistant Athletics Director for Academics at Cheyney University, an NCAA Division II school in Cheyney, Pa. While at Cheyney, Hamilton gained valuable experience dealing with all aspects of student-athlete support services. Following his two-year stint at Cheyney, Hamilton accepted a position as Director of Student-Athlete Services for Classroom Link, Inc. in 1994. At Classroom Link, Inc., Hamilton assists prospective Division I student-athletes, high school guidance counselors, coaches, and parents in understanding the college recruitment process and prepares and distributes information materials that illuminate initial and continuing eligibility requirements.
"I am looking forward to returning to the challenging and refreshing setting of a university," said Hamilton. "I think that I have a lot to offer Bowling Green, but Bowling Green is also a place where my family can feel comfortable. Personally, I see Athletics Director Paul Krebs orchestrating a nice staff with great people in key positions. I feel honored to be a part of it, and I think that other schools in the MAC and even in the nation will look to Bowling Green as a model."
Hamilton will fill the position vacated by Gina Parks in the Academic Advising Office, which is led by Assistant Athletics Director Jack Taylor.
