Fontana Makes Successful Pro Debut

Tony Fontana, who led the Bowling Green State University pitching staff in 2000, made his professional debut Wednesday night with the Lowell Spinners, Boston's Class A Affiliate in the New York-Penn league.
Fontana pitched four scoreless innings striking out four and allowing two hits. He did not walk a batter, but hit one.
Fontana entered the contest in the top of the fifth inning with Lowell trailing the visiting Pittsfield Mets 3-1. The Spinners took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Mets rallied with a run in the top of the ninth and added two more runs in the 10th for a 6-4 victory.
