Bowling Green State University junior pitcher Tony Fontana (Parma, OH/Valley Forge) was selected by Boston in the seventh round.
Fontana, who led the Falcons with an 8-3 record and a 2.69 earned-run average, was the first Mid-American Conference player selected as he went 212th overall to the Red Sox.
He was a 2000 MAC All-League First Team selection after recording 78 strikeouts in 83.2 innings. Fontana completed eight of his 14 starts with two shutouts.
