Sean Kotary, an incoming freshman for the Bowling Green State University hockey team, was selected in the ninth round of the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. The NHL's entry draft was held on June 24-25, 2000 in Calgary, Alberta.
Kotary had 104 points on 49 goals and 55 assists this past season for Northwood (NY) Prep. He is the younger brother of former CCHA player Mark Kotary (Kent State).
Kotary's selection marks the sixth straight year at least one BGSU hockey player has been drafted and the 12th year in the last 13. The Falcons have had 58 players selected including eight that were taken during the supplemental draft which existed from 1986-94.
Kotary was one of two incoming CCHA recruits to be selected joining Nebraska-Omaha's Dan Ellis.
