CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the second consecutive year, Ball State and Miami have both been tabbed as the favorites to win their respective divisions of the Mid-American Conference. The league office released the 2000 preseason coaches poll, which is the results of voting by the league's 13 head volleyball coaches.
The Falcons of 18th-year head coach Denise Van De Walle were picked to finish in a fourth-place tie in the East Division. Bowling Green received two first-place votes and had a total of 54 points to deadlock with Marshall for fourth. Akron was picked to place second behind Miami in the East, followed by Kent State.
The Falcons boast a total of 10 letterwinners from last year's team. That squad finished with an overall record of 21-12. After being picked to finish fourth in the East Division last year, the Brown and Orange placed second with a 12-6 MAC record. That team finished just a game behind UA in the East.
The Falcons will begin the 2000 campaign by heading to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Tournament (Sept. 1-2). BGSU opens the home portion of the schedule by hosting a tournament two weeks later (Sept. 15-16).
