Athletic Hall of Fame Member Passes Away

Robert Zimpfer, a three-year letterwinner in football (1957-58-59) for the Falcons, passed away last Saturday (Aug. 12) at Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Zimpfer was born in Sidney, Ohio, and graduated from Sidney High School in 1956 and Bowling Green State University in 1960. While at BGSU, he was an industrial arts education major and was a tackle on the 1959 small-college national championship football team. Zimpfer was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1974.
After college, he taught industrial arts in Sylvania, Ohio (1960-65), and later was an instructor at Penta County Vocational School. Zimpfer held administrative posts at Wayne County Joint Vocational School near Wooster, Ohio.
He was then superintendent of Bucyrus City Schools from 1972 to 1977 and later served as superintendent of Sylvania City Schools. While at Sylvania, he was honored as 1991 school administrator of the year by the Ohio Educational Library/Media Association.
The funeral will be on August 16 at the Church of the Messiah United Methodist in Westerville, Ohio, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
