Bowling Green, Ohio -
Bowling Green State University Athletic Director Paul Krebs announced today that a football scheduling agreement has been reached with the University of Missouri, which will bring the Big 12 member to Doyt L. Perry Stadium in 2002.
The agreement will have the Falcons traveling to Missouri in 2001, with the Tigers coming to Bowling Green in 2002. The Falcons also will play another game at Missouri in 2009.
"This is a great opportunity for our football program," said Krebs. "This fits in with our objective to increase our fan base by bringing quality non-conference opponents to Perry Stadium."
"I think playing a high-profile opponent during the non-conference season is extremely appealing to our student-athletes," said 10th-year head coach Gary Blackney. "It's even more exciting for our University and the community when you can play that opponent at home."
The Falcons have played at Missouri twice since 1995. BGSU knocked off the Tigers, 17-10, in 1995. In 1998, MU defeated the Falcons, 37-0. Missouri is coached by BGSU alum Larry Smith and his defensive coordinator is former Falcon player and head coach Moe Ankney.
In the future, the Falcons non-conference home schedule includes Pittsburgh (2000), Temple (2001), Missouri and Middle Tennessee State (2002), Louisiana-Monroe (2003), South Florida (2004), and Wyoming (2006). BGSU also has non-conference road games at South Carolina (2001), LSU (2002), Purdue and Ohio State (2003), Auburn (2004) and Michigan (2005).
