STATEMENT FROM GARY BLACKNEY
I have decided that this will be my final year at Bowling Green. I have submitted my resignation to Paul Krebs, athletic director, effective after the completion of this season. It is time for me to close this chapter and move on. I feel the timing of this decision was neccesary to put an end to the speculation regarding my position. It is time to put focus on whats important, namely our players and the remainder of the season. Additionally, it will give Paul ample time to find a replacement and allow for a smooth transition. I am very greatful for the opportunity afforded me to coach at Bowling Green and live in a great community.
There are several people I would like to thank:
Jack Gregory, former athletic director and Dr. Paul Olscamp for hirng me as the Head Football Coach at Bowling Green State University.
My current and former players for their hard work and dedication.
My coaching staff and their families for their loyalty and devotion.
The support staff within the athletic department for their hard work and assistance.
Ron Zwierlein, Paul Krebs and Dr. Sidney Ribeau and the Board of Trustees, especially Kerm Stroh for their continued support through the years.
The members of the Coaches' Corner whose support allowed us to have the recruiting success over the past three years and also to the wonderful people in the city of Bowling Green and Bowling Green State University.
Most importantly, I want to thank my family, I love them all very much.
BGSU ATHLETIC DIRECTOR PAUL KREBS
I've known Gary Blackney for 15 years and hold him in the highest regard. He is a class act and a fine football coach. He has enjoyed tremendous success here at Bowling Green and will have success again in the future.
I think we have an attractive opportunity for the right person.
BGSU PRESIDENT SIDNEY RIBEAU
Gary has been loyal and a positive asset to both the University and the Bowling Green community. He will be missed, but we wish him well in his new endeavors.
