2000-2001 TEAM NOTES
With the win at Northern Illinois, BGSU has won four straight MAC road games dating back to last year. They won at Miami (66-60), Akron (73-72) and Marshall (88-83) before defeating the Huskies in DeKalb to open the MAC season. The Falcons were 5-4 in the MAC last season on the road.
Eight players have started at least one game this season.
The Falcons had their best defensive performance of the season allowing just 67 points against Northern Illinois on 39.7 percent shooting.
BGSU leads the MAC in scoring (84.5), free throw percentage (76.2), field goal percentage (50.6) and assists (16.33).
The Falcons are averaging just 12.7 turnovers the last five games, after averaging 18 per game the first seven games of the season.
Since February of 1999, the Falcons have a 35-16 record (.686). In that time, BGSU is 12-3 in games decided by 10 points or less.
One of the top shooting teams in the country last season (4th, 49.2%) and the current leader in the MAC (50.6), BGSU eclipsed the 50 percent shooting mark, 15 times last season and has done so on six occasions this year, and have a 19-2 record in the last two years when they make at least half of their field goal attempts.
The Falcons shot a season-best 85.3% from the line against Wilmington (29/34) and currently lead the MAC from the charity stripe (.76.2). BGSU is 8-2 in the last two years, when they have shot better than 80% from the line. In the last seven games, BGSU is shooting 80.2 (170/212) from the line.
timely defense In the Falcons two MAC wins, BGSU has benefitted from two critical defensive stands. Against Buffalo, the Falcons held the Bulls to four of 13 shooting and forced five turnovers from the 17:58 mark of the second half to the 5:12 mark turning a five-point deficit to a 12-point lead.
At Northern Illinois, the Falcons trailed by six early in the second half but stopped the Huskies on seven of eight possessions to turn a four-point deficit to a 12-point lead in the second half.
BATTLE OF THE BOARDS
The Falcons outscored Buffalo 18-2 in the first half on second-chance points and outrebounded the Bulls, 39-26. The 39 rebounds for the Falcons marked their best effort of the season on the glass. At the Falcons end of the court, BGSU had 15 offensive rebounds, while Buffalo corralled only 16 of the Falcon misses. This was a dramatic improvement over BGSU's effort against Central Michigan where they were outrebounded 24-10 in the second half against the Chippewas.
PRODUCTIVE OFFENSE
BGSU made a season-best 70.8 (17 of 24) of their shots from the field in the second half against the Bulls. The Falcons also connected on three of five field three-point field goal attempts and 18 of 22 free throws, while committing just four turnovers in the final 20 minutes of the game.
FALCON FACTS
From 1998-2000, the Falcons posted a 40-18 record, the best BGSU two-year record since Hall of Famer Nate Thurmond led the Falcons to a 40-12 mark from 1961-63.
FALCONS PLAY BEFORE LARGEST CROWD
The 22,076 fans to see BGSU face #1 Michigan State at the Palace of Auburn Hills, marked the highest attendance figure to ever watch a Falcon basketball game. It also is the fourth highest attended basketball game in the country this season.
