SEASON OPENER FOR BGSU: Thursday's game will be the fifth season opener under Dan Dakich and 87th in the history of the Falcon program. The Falcons have won three straight openers, including a 92-87 victory over Evansville last season. This game also ties the 1997-98 season opener as the earliest first game in BGSU history (November 15). BGSU (#47) received three votes in this week's ESPN Coaches Poll, while Ole Miss (#37) and Butler (#40) also received mention.
AGAINST THE REBELS: This will be the third meeting between the two teams. Mississippi defeated BGSU at home, 100-78, while the Falcons got revenge in Anderson Arena, 79-76, during the 1980-81 campaign.
AGAINST THE FIELD: BGSU has never played Alaska-Fairbanks, Radford, or Delaware. The Falcons own a 4-1 series advantage over Butler, a 3-1 ledger against Wichita State, and are 0-1 against Washington.
THEY GOT TO DANCE: Ole Miss and Butler participated in the 2001 NCAA Tournament. Both were eliminated by Arizona.
OPENING IN A TOURNAMENT: This will be the second time in three seasons that BGSU has opened a campaign in a tournament. Two years ago, the Falcons won the Nextell Challenge in Honolulu, Hawaii, when they defeated Jackson State, 60-43, and Hawaii, 53-49.
EXHIBITION SEASON: The Falcons defeated Argentina Select, 101-86 on November 4 and Shawnee State, 89-70 on November 8.
ON THE RADIO: All three BGSU games can be heard on WBGU-FM (88.1). The student-run campus station is picking up a feed from KIAK (970 AM) in Fairbanks. Each game of the entire tournament is available on the internet at www.uaf.edu.
